Thanks for the advice guys. I love my climber but sometimes wish I could hang some stands in certain spots. Sometimes I feel like I'm hunting the tree, rather than the deer. I'll keep up the mobility though like I have all season.

Funny story to go along with this post. My morning sit today turned out pretty interesting. I saw a few does get chased out of some brush this morning around 7am, but around 8:30, my fingers and toes had turned to icicles so I decided to get down from the tree. When I got down, I immediately started doing some body weight squats to get the blood pumping back into my limbs. Then I got down on my stomach and started pumping out as many push-ups as I could. I think I was around 15 when I noticed to my right, a big brown blob standing in the middle of the trail just staring at me, which became clear to me was a deer when I could see its breath in the cold air. So I quickly grabbed my bow and hid behind some laurel. It came straight toward me and stopped at around 15 yards. I was able identify it as the 6 pointer that my buddy saw yesterday. He definitely got the pass, he's only a year and a half and hes a very nice rack for such a young deer. If only he were about 100 pounds heavier and 2 years older, I would have shot him

Why yes, Dave, that was my plan all along ;)
Usually mid November, I break out my ninja skills and ambush a bruiser. Stay tuned!

Well boys sounds like its tough all over this year. Last Wednesday the lovely wife's grandfather passed away. Her mom is our daycare so in her absence, I've been manning the post. Happy to do it but its meant I've really only sat in my stand maybe twice this year. Sucks but it had to be this way. So we just got back in town from SC tonight and oh yeah, I'm going out in the morning. I cannot wait nice had terrible withdraws. Lol. Next week I should be able to get in several morning sits. Hopefully we will have a little bit of luck come our way so we can put one on the ground. Good luck boys and keep grinding.

Indeed my friend. I'll be adding all those tactics aswell tomorrow but I'll be on the ground with the girlfriend in tow. That will definitely make things more difficult. Who knows she could end up being a good luck charm. Haha.
    Get at em fellas!!

Good luck fellas. I got all the chores done so we can put the house on the market. The wife is gonna let me go back down from Sunday through Wednesday. Seems like there is a bit more action going on now. Hope to capitalize.

Made it out for a bit this morning. Saw 3 doe and a small buck. He was nose down and chasing tail! First glimpse of any 'rut' type activity I've seen so far....so that is promising. I'll be back out all day tomorrow, then hopefully a day or two next week for an evening sit and then again next Friday and Saturday. Seems like a good time to be in the woods. Hopefully my first bow kill is on the horizon.
Good luck to all who make it out tomorrow.

Well after a vet unsuccessful since I decided to move my stand. One of the other guys on the lease decided to move one of our other feeders to the field. Problem is I cannot get to my stand without walking right by it. ***. So after reviewed the property map and found a secluded section of pines and oaks. Found three major trails and set up near an intersection and have a 20-25 yd shot to both of them. Signs look good. Added a little Tinks 69 to the scrape so we will see what happens. Can't go tomorrow but Tuesday its on. [IMG][IMG]

Well boys, I did it. I shot my first buck with a bow. I was in the stand yesterday morning by 5:30AM. Around 6:30 I heard some chasing going on around me but couldn't see the action taking place. About a half hour later, a six pointer came walking through the brush into shooting range with his nose to the ground. I watched him walk by me and down the side of a stone wall and down the hill. At around 9AM I noticed movement down the hill about 100 yards away. It was a big bodied deer with its nose to the ground, which I figured to be a buck. I grabbed the grunt tube and gave him one call. He picked his head up enough for me to see antler, and then proceeded to walk a straight line straight toward me. He came within 10 yards of my stand as if he had read my script from cover to cover, grunting and sniffing the ground like he was searching for the origin of where he heard my call. I saw his antlers and almost let him walk, but the fact that the scenario played out so well in my favor and the fact that I've never stuck an antlered deer before with my bow made me decide to select him as my first. I came to full draw on him for about a minute and a half because he never settled broadside long enough for me to shoot. He was always facing me or the opposite direction. Finally, at 20 yards, he presented me with a quartering away shot, and was able to place the arrow perfectly for it to lodge itself in his far side shoulder and take out one lung and clip the other. He ran about 150 yards and dropped out of sight.

He only measured 69 7/8 inches, but he was a great buck. The two guys at the butcher's (having dealt with hundreds of deer harvests) and myself all agreed he must have weighed somewhere between 170-180lbs field dressed, which I guess would make him somewhere around 190-200lbs alive. I've killed 7 deer in my life, and all I know is that this buck was the first deer I've ever shot that I've been overwhelmed with, weight wise. I also couldnt have been happier with the shape of his rack. Though not big, he had near perfect symmetry, with the exception of a broken left brow tine. I'm very happy with this deer and proud to call him my first bow buck. Here are some pics. I hope they come out right side up this time.

I'm sorry I couldnt put more points on the board for the team fellas. He's not quite the monster that has been haunting my dreams for the past few years but at least he's something. He's the classic southern new england deer, big body, small rack. You guys out in the midwest better knock down some slammers this year to make up for it haha. I still have one more tag (buck) to fill so of course I'll continuing my quest for antler. Good luck out there guys, lets bring home the "W" eh?
