I have dabbled a little bit with decoys, but so far have only had small bucks and fawns come to them.
I put them out about 25 yards away from me, facing me.
Make sure it's totally scent free, and remember that bucks will usually come to them head to head (if using a buck decoy, from behind if using as a doe).
Mature does usually freak at the sight of them from my experience, so if you're after a doe, don't bother.
I like to try em during pre-rut, to entice a bruiser defending his turf.
I may try it a lot this year.

Good info Fred. Thanks man. That's one thing I like about the Mr. November, you can just remove the antlers and use it as a doe if you want. I may use him as a buck some next month along with some buck urine to see if I can pull that 8 point out of the shadows. :D

What Fred said. Remember to make sure your hunting the correct wind. (blowing into your face). You can put the decoy even further away as well, 30-35 yards. The buck should circle around to get the decoys wind and look him in the face. Presenting a closer shot than where the decoy is located. Scent free is a must, and be ready for a mix of emotions. Could be wild action, could be shear disappointment...

Im going to give it a go this year. Seen alot of bucks last year that wanted to commit to my grunting but just wouldnt. I think a decoy will give them that conformation that it is another deer

I've never tried using a decoy either. It always seemed like something that could work well if I was hunting ag fields or large clearings for the deer to be able to see it. I mostly hunt way back in the woods near the swamps and thick stuff so I'm not sure if it would actually be visible enough to work. I have a rather large 3D target with removable antlers, Its very life-like. Could something like that work in place of a decoy?

Sure the target would work, as long as you don't mind lugging that sucker around.
Only one of the properties I hunt is decoy friendly farmland (the one I posted my setup earlier). The other 2 are pretty much woods and swamp also.

I also hunt only wooded areas but I do have a couple spots that are clear enough that my decoy could be seen from about 60 or so yards away. The thick woods is the main reason I haven't messed around with it more so than a couple sits last season.

I would hate to lug a decoy into a set up in the thick woods. That IMO would seem more trouble than worthwhile.

I've not tried on either but have been kicking it around. Especially after having deer in my field but just not close enough.

Just got a shot on a doe. Seemed like a good hit. Gonna give it a little while before taking up the trail. Pretty sure I heard her crash just outta sight.:D

Here's a pic of how she laid in the woods. Gonna post the hunt details and stuff a little later. Gotta get busy skinning and quartering her out and on ice. uploadfromtaptalk1379683429660.jpg
