I completely missed this post, apologies if I came across insensitive. The last radio call just destroy me inside. I've had a similar situation happen to me with a friend/EMT and its just terrible.
Looks like I'll be able to head down to the cabin this Friday to look swap some chips Friday is opening day but I won't be hunting, but now that I say that.... hmmm... I'd head to leave Thursday night we'l see what pans out
Hey y’all. I’ve been sick as all getout since last Friday. Our season actually opened last Saturday but I haven’t hunted yet. I haven’t missed an opening day in over a decade, even rode out a tropical storm in a tree stand one year (and got seasick in the process). I’m dying to get in a tree and I have been finally feeling a lot better today but I still have a nasty dry cough (like a string of hacking coughs that come on every 2-3 minutes) so I decided not to hunt this afternoon. I figured my coughing would just spook every deer well before it got within range and just ruin whatever stand I was in for the next few weeks. I’m hoping my cough dies down alot by tomorrow afternoon and I might be able to get up in a tree without blowing out the stand… tbd.
I think about half the team or at least 3-4 will be hunting. Let’s get on the board this weekend! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
WTF those honkers been eating? Those are wallhangers to say the least? If I saw those fly overhead I’d think Jurassic park might’ve become reality.
Also I have felt too ****ty to even check work emails, much less BH.Com, so I got like 1,100 emails and 4 pages of team 12 blog to get through and I’m definitely not getting through it all t’nite (and if I’m not coughing too bad I’m definitely asking my boss, aka myself, to give me the afternoon off tomorrow for my first hunt) so please bear with me while I get caught up… I’ll be back as a team member shortly.
Anybody wanna help me out until I get a chance to read through the past week of posts and lett me know if we’ve killed anything yet?
No I don’t think anyone but mbcoyote has been out yet. Two teams have gotten on the scoreboard. We got a couple more guys season’s opening this weekend. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I’ll be hunting ducks, squirrels, honkers, whitetail, skunks, doves, possums, landbeavers, regular beavers, snapping turtles, raccoons, rabbits, marsh hens, and nutria for sure. I might also go down to a buddies place in Hyde county for a black bear, but depends on how much room I have in my freezers. If I’m out of room for meat then dragging a bear out of the swamp becomes a whole lot of work for a bear rug. I’ve got an open invite to go up to a buddies land in dorchester to hunt Sika deer, but it depends on if our schedules align. I applied for the tundra swan draw in NC and I’ve got a solid private land spot lined up if I do get a tag. Tags are 50/50 so that’s TBD. Another friend invited me down to TX to hunt sandhill cranes and kill some hogs from his father-in-laws helicopter but I am almost certain I’m not gonna be able to make it. I feel kind of bad since it is the 3rd year I’ve gotten an invite and had to turn him down, but timing never works out so it is what it is. I’ll probably kill a few coyotes while hunting at some point. I don’t target them specifically but as far as I’m concerned, every hunt is a coyote hunt if one walks out. I will kill alot of coyotes trapping, as well as opossums and raccoons. I know that I could trap a ton of beavers too but I don’t know any way to trap them without using lethal sets - either drowning or conibears. I trap/hunt on a golf course where people regularly walk their dogs off leash so I don’t wanna use any lethal sets. I have managed to do my sets in a way that I have never once caught a single pet dog in a foothold trap over the past 3yrs but I am still hesitant to use any sort of lethal set out there because I don’t wanna risk it.
Season opens here on October 1. I will start focusing more on deer once early goose goes out in two days. Last night was a dandy with a 2 man limit and my first two bands ever! Sent from my SM-N986U using Tapatalk
When I was in NC, I trapped beavers with snares. NC rules were snares can’t be lethal so they are releasing snares. I caught a bunch of beaver alive that way. You could look at that if you’re so inclined. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
bought my tag today little background before my plan for tomorrow the land I hunt is owned by my father in law, 3-4 weeks ago he had surgery on his foot and hasn't been able to do a lot. a week ago he was given a boot and this week was told he could start using his foot a little but he can't drive. I was planning on going to cabin to swap chips and he wants to ride along. Tomorrow early taking my 5 year old, picking up grandpa and headed down. It is opening day but I was not planning on hunting, I will however sit for an hour or two just because I can/want to. I do not plan on shooting unless its worth shooting on opening day with no real help to drag and no time to process the animal after. It would have to be worth the trouble I'd get in for the extra time not currently allotted for that. I'll then get the 4 wheeler out and run around swapping chips, then I'll pick a ton of apples again. We'll grill some deer brats eat and head home.
first sit of the year on opening day, got into stand just before noon to see if that 1pm buck comes on by a 3rd day in a row its thick in here
