We went out and he wasn't in that bed anymore. No sign again. We followed the path he's been on for 48 hours and jumped a big 10 out of a small patch of bedding. I can't confirm it was him but the location makes perfect sense. If that was my deer, he was moving pretty darn well. We searched back around the last bed and checked this buck's bedding area (this neighbor is super cool and told me where the buck hangs out!). No luck...didn't even see another deer after the one we jumped. I'll search back my direction tomorrow, but I think he's still headed away from me. I gave my pins and pics to the neighbor who said he would keep an eye out... 450 yards to first bed 425 yards to first drone bed 250 yards to second drone bed 220 yards to jumped buck 50 hours since shot I'm so confused and frustrated! I've never lost a deer before.
Between my memory of events and the drone shots, I still think entry (left side) and exit (right side) are good. Clearly that isn't the case. What do you guys think? I keep looking at pics of deer bedded vs standing to see where those holes are.
Looking at these pics. It may be slightly foward. Very hard to tell though. Crossbows have so much force, but it does happen.
left the stand 10 min early looked back 200 yds big boy rolled in, too dark anyway, so last night waited for him last light, again too dark, picked up, 80 yds later walking out he gives me a little goodbye whistle Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
should we wait two weeks till after gun season or continue, thoughts? Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Im kind of thinking the shot is alittle higher then it appears. Looks to be below the spine, but maybe just nicked the top of a lungs. Was the drone able to zoom in on deers face? See if any blood around nose? That would confirm that you at least got 1 lung.
What a roller coaster coming back to read this story. I really hope it has a good ending. My number 1 went down Thursday. From my stand no less but my twin brother was sitting on it. We own land together. He wanted to sell it about two weeks ago and hasn't stepped foot on the property in two years. First sit, knocks down the best deer back there. He has put in the time in other areas and was totally due but this was a total assist from yours truly! I've only been able to hunt it once because of the wind/weather. He assures me he will do more work around there from here on out. I guess only time will tell!!!!
He's getting me the flight videos soon. I'm sure I'll watch it 700 times. 2" Spitfire should have hit something in there.
I searched everything West of where my buck was hanging out those last 36 hours. I went to talk with the neighbor to the East (planned on leaving pics and contact info with them) and the guy said "get back there and look." So now I've cleared that area too. My buddy owns the property to the North, so we're getting things narrowed down. If he's dead, he's in a 53 acre timber patch and I trust that hunter to let me know if he's found.
Well you definitely went above and beyond bud…all you can do. Update from me is I seen the giant im after this morning. He bumped a doe 60 yards from me…they circled me and I think he might have caught my wind. It was sickening. Did get a crappy pic of part of him coming by my camera. My gf slept in. He came by her stuff setup in the tree at 15 yards…the tree I normally hunt lol. Still planning on shooting any decent deer. Set up in the nasty right now. Fingers crossed. That is a tough one. I cant tell if above or below spine. If below, probably a 1 lung hit. Cant believe he is still walking after that.
Well fellas got my tail kicked. Saw a TON of deer this week. Only the one shooter yesterday. Having him catch my wind kinda took the wind out of me..if he shows back up on the scrape at some point I’ll probably go back in but until then I’m gonna let it chill out. Might go hunt public this week while the kids are at school but it’s a madhouse everytime I drive through. Turnips are growing awesome so there’s always late season too! I don’t throw the towel in easy but I am wore clear out haha Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
There is no above lung and below spine, bro The spine dips there.. my guess it was a backstrap hit Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
