Well I almost got it done last night. Had him show up at about 10 yards with 7-8 minutes before end of shooting light. Had a raccoon on the other side of my tree and the two had a standoff for a few minutes before he decided to step into my shooting lane. Had 2-3 min of shooting light left but couldn’t see him in the camera viewfinder so we get to keep playing the game. I’ll be back after him tonight.

Hopefully you had a long night of getting him taken care of haha! I figure my next outing won’t be until the 8th. Supposed to be warm and raining this week so I might skip out on hunting while the kids are in school. I make it to the 8th I’ll have 5 straight days to all day sit. And the last of my vacation ha

Well, I have to apologize to my team. In all the excitement of my harvest, I did not get my bow in any of my pictures. I took the deer directly to the processor Saturday night. I contacted them later in the day Sunday and they had already started processing him. I was told without bow in pics it will not count. Again I apologize for the mistake. Sorry.

Way to go RJ! That's a great deer.

What a bust last week was as far as deer hunting is concerned. As far as the banking world, it was quite active for me which was a great feeling for a fledgling commercial lender. I sat after work for a few hours on Wednesday and finally, about 10 minutes after sundown, 3 does materialize out in the adjacent field about 150 yards away... and that was all I saw. Fast forward to Saturday morning, I went out again thinking that the stand must have made its transition to a better morning stand during this time of year. Typically, this stand gets really active the last week of October, into mid-November during the sun-up to 11am timeframe. Alas, it was not to be. I saw nothing... except 8 turkeys. That was kind of exciting as I've never seen any turkeys on this property prior to that day but I'd not purchased a turkey tag, so I never got excited about the prospects of shooting a turkey.
It's another busy week so I believe that the only times that I'll be able to sit is tomorrow evening and a weekend morning. It's time to put a deer or two on the ground as I'm rapidly running out of meat. The four of us have nearly gone through 3 deer from last year. I've got about 10lbs left. Half of it is scraps that I'll turn into jerky and a few lbs of ground that I uncovered in the freezer (we had burgers last night!) With general firearm season less than two weeks away, it's time to get as serious as I'm going to get this year. It's been a strange year as I don't have as much time with the new job to get out on weekdays to hunt, and with two younger girls who are not yet willing to join me in the stand, I don't have as much free time as I did while I was a finance guy at a dealership. Life gets in the way of our pursuits, which is what it's all about! Prioritize family over individual goals... right! Keep up the good work fellas! I'll get in on the action soon.

Good deer man!!! It's a shame it won't count for the contest but don't let it ruin the moment for you! That just means the rest of have some work to do!

I too had a last light encounter on Saturday. It was hard to make out the rack until he crossed the creek and the black water back drop gave him up. It was too dark to shoot at that point but he was a good one. He walked in the direction of my field and he did indeed cross the camera. He is a fanstatic looking specimen and new to my area. Probably just a cruiser that I won't ever see again but it's cool getting that close because it affirms that you are doing something right. I was as close to the bedding as a human can possibly get so I wouldn't change a thing. Well, I shouldn't say that. Night vision. Night vistion is one thing I would change! Just kidding.......maybe.

It happens. You still got a great buck. So you could redeem yourself with a doe for the team! Haha

Pictures aren’t loading for me but I believe ya! Ha good luck man! I’m out of commission for the next week. Gonna be warm and my oldest isn’t feeling well this week so no hunting for me while they’re in school

It's looking warm and a little wet down here next week. I'll be sitting sun up until about 4 every day. I got the week off of work but still have to get the kids to basketball practice every night.

Here are a couple more bucks from this property...it's hard to tell what they are in pics of pics.

We set a record high for temp yesterday. I did have some deer moving the last hour though so I'm looking forward to this massive weather change happening today. Let's drop a couple Corn Kings in the next few weeks.
