A nice little front is moving in tonight. I will be out most of the day. Everything really slowed down after the 80 degree temps moved in. The weekend doesn't look bad either. The younger bucks seem to be starting to feel the itch. The better deer are bidding their time as usual.
I snuck in to the blind at 5 this morning. I thought my shooter was coming in right at first light but it was just a little forky. I ended up seeing 3 does, 2 bucks and a yote. No shooters.
It's finally time to get back into the stand! The trip to Colorado went well, but not well enough. I know where I'm going to go for a mule deer hunt, but i doubt I apply for an elk tag again. Today, we're sitting at 75° and tomorrow will be a high of 55° or so. Wind changing from south to west-north-west. Any sort of wind out of the west is perfect for my main stand. I haven't been there in 3 weeks, so it should be back to normal behaviors out there. I'm not going to get overly confident, but the corn has been cut, but not plowed under! All things are looking to be great conditions for a deer party tomorrow! Sent from my SM-S918U using Tapatalk
Looks like we’re getting some good weather this weekend, and I finally have some older deer moving in. And I have some time to actually hunt starting this weekend. That big one I posted early is still around and there are a handful of other older deer that have showed up that won’t score well but I’d still shoot. Here are a few pics…..
This is the weekend to be in the tree! Cold fronts moving in for most, rut starting to kick in. Its a magical time to be in the woods. Starting to see some big bucks hit the ground around me. Good luck guys.
I was out last night and had a buck I've been after for three years make an appearance at 20 yards. I had deer by be so I couldn't get out of the stand and as soon as I started packing up I heard grunting from opposite directions. I never saw one buck but the other one came in and made a couple scrapes and then hit the corn field. I knew it was a good buck but didn't now it was him until I checked the cam. I went there for that deer as he was there a little late the night before as well. I got out unscathed but I can't hunt that spot for a few days due to the wind. I have a couple other good deer that I would love to get a chance at that have been showing up right at last light as well. The wind switches back for one day this weekend.
Washing my gear tonight. Hopefully out tomorrow after work. Will be out Saturday evening. Saturday high is 55 low 35.
In a tree this morning in VT, but then soccer playoffs this afternoon and youth weekend all weekend. Good luck everyone!
Sorry for going M.I.A…there was zero service all week in the forest I was in. Very uneventful and never could figure them out. Lots of doe and little bucks but couldn’t get on big sign at all. Hardest hunting I’ve ever done ha that being said tomorrow is the last day of vacation for October and I’m going full send on the private farm all weekend until I go back to work Sunday night Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I had grand plans to hunt this afternoon but trick or treat in my wife's hometown won the popular vote.
Finally hunting tonight guys and I’m pumped. Have a good wind and two years of pics on this deer using the spot I’m gonna sit tonight. Got a pic of him heading in there this morning too.
Go get him bud! Good luck! I had an awesome morning! Seen lots of deer and two decent bucks. One was a droptine buck that is always a regular but he busted off all of his drops ha. Maybe that’ll secure him living another year. Gonna go grab a bite to eat and head back out! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Well my turnips finally came up! And they look awesome! Scrapes and big rubs all the way around both plots. Set up to kill tonight with my fingers crossed. I’m on one and the gf is on the other. Confidence is high! Took my camera out of here so the anticipation right now is sky rocketed! Good luck to everyone out in a tree! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
About 6pm a buck popped out of brush from my left. Worked his way out in front of me at 34 yards and I let one go. Ran about 10 more yards out of the woods into the field, turned right and went about 15 yards and fell over in the field. Shot was perfect, double lung. Been 3 years since my last deer. Will enjoy this one very much.
