I was out yesterday and will continue to be for the weekend with my wife. Trying to get her first deer.
I got out last night. Kind of a weird hunt. Ran into 2 other hunters, knew one guy. Bumped deer, saw a couple deer from over 300 yards and ran into a buck in the dark. The property is 1000 acres and all 3 of us were within 100 yards of each other. Just happens sometimes. But definitely a nice night out, just didn't get any leads on a big buck to chase. Had a decent buck come hit a scrape I was hunting over tonight. Probably 120inch 10 point. Was nice to see some bone! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Absolutely landed on a pile of deer this morning on accident. Walked to a far ridge where, in the past, it’s been loaded with white oaks dropping. Solid mile and a half round trip. Left the car at 445. Got all the way back there and it was a ghost town. No acorns, sign, or anything. Hammered down back to the car. Flew to a gate where I knew a ridge went out close to the gate that had been loaded in the past. Two trucks there. Went to spot by the road just to get in a dang tree. Get set up right at 7 and before I know it the woods erupts. Deer everywhere. Little buck was pushing doe around like rats. Grunting and wrecking the woods. Saw 9 deer but no shooters, cue Tony…..was an awesome morning in the woods for it being such a fuster cluck! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Hey, he is just trying to provide the team with the most points he can. All or nothing! Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
I’m not a fan of tagging out early either haha like to savor my one buck tag..there’s been years I’ve shot smaller bucks just because of the scenario. I know when I know lol. Just happy it’s deer season! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
We popped up a blind where the tree crushed my ladder stand and put a cell cam on the biggest scrape. It doesn't look like the bucks are around right now but they usually show up around the 16th.
We're headed in to the urban spot this afternoon. It's 80° with 20mph wind gusts but we'll have fun sitting out there. Double G4 buck or nothing...
Back to work for me tonight…might sneak out Tuesday morning after work before I get the kids. Massive front. Other than that I’ll be pretty much out of commission unless I hunt while the kids are at school this week. Our yearly deer camp is next week. Hunting a piece of public I’ve never been on for 6 days! What a time to be alive haha Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
We had the tempting 8 hanging out with us all night. Little man was begging me to shoot but I controlled myself.
Stay strong! Haha, that big one is just around the corner. He is a nice looking deer. Still testing you.
I ran into a guy on public yesterday. Oh my god, the stories this guy had. He was very frustrated that he doesn't have any shooters on camera. Then he said, well I do have 5 over 150 but I usually have 17 or 18 by now with a couple 180's. Told me he's chasing one that is 230..........easily. He bumped him off his bed the other day. I'm trying to figure out why he's so frustrated because that seems like a pretty good lead on a potential state/world record if it's typical. Understand that this area is decimated by wolves and to pull a 150 inch buck out of this 100k parcel would not be an easy feat and definately not something a mere mortal could do consistenly. I didn't have the balls to question him since he seemed to be from the other side of the tracks if you know what I mean. That and he was holding a machete. I choose by arguments wisely! Checked out another public piece and ran into some normal dudes which was refreshing. This spot sticks out like a sore thumb but it it also a large piece and plenty of room for a few guys. I grabbed his phone number to stay in contact. I have no problem passing information to the right individuals if they are good people. I'm no expert thought so any information I give you should be consumed with a grain of salt.
I had a similar scenario the other day haha and the guy grilled me for shooting a doe the day before. He then proceeds to tell me about all the booners he’s killed. I showed him a couple of my deer but he “couldn’t find” any pictures of his. Nonetheless I listened to what he had to say and even if he was slightly off his rocker I can respect an older gentleman getting out there and grinding on public. He told me where his set up was, I asked so I didn’t mess him up, we shook hands, wished luck to each other, and rolled on. Nothing like those deep wood stranger conversations haha Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
