Pretty slow weekend for cams and deer sighting in the tree for me. Got rained out on Saturday but I thought last night would have been better. This morning was frosty again. I'm trying to work some overtime to catch up so I can be off when it really gets going. I really wish I could find a local shooter instead of waiting for them to come to me!!! I've been scouring the public land but it hasn't been great. I have a new spot I will check this weekend.

So last night didn't go the way one wants. I had a cool looking 7 pointer that I decided to take. The side that had three was the brow tine and some cool tall almost circular looking g2 and g3 on his left side. My closest setting on my site tape is 20 yards and this deer was probably at about 12 yards which felt like directly below me. To stop making "excuses" I took the shot and in my mind's eye I hit high (backstrap). However, whence I got on the trail, there was a lot more blood than I originally thought I'd find. After tracking until about 10pm, I backed out, called my buddy Trenton who is a dog handler and we're going to be meeting back out there this afternoon when we're both done working. I've got reservations, but I'm hopeful. To me, he really was a pretty cool looking buck.

Good luck. A shot that is a little high might not be that bad from such a steep angle.

That's why I'm headed back out there in about an hour or so. Hopefully, i can discover a few gems about the thick bedding cover I'll be traipsing through if nothing else.

Goodluck man! It’s hard to tell from a picture but looks like some muscle blood to me. Fingers crossed! I’ve shot a pile of deer at steep angles and everything turned out fine haha definitely a game of inches. Keep us updated so we don’t chew all our fingernails off waiting! Hahahah

Ohio opens Saturday! The kids have stickball on Saturday and Sunday morning, but I might try to sneak out for an afternoon hunt. Supposed to have light rain all weekend...

Dang. Some tough luck lately. The good news is there is plenty of time left in the season.

Had a great sit. Also got word of a big buck and tried hunting him tonight. Didnt see him but saw plenty of deer. Ended having 6 deer total under 20 yards. 2 does, 2 fawns and 2 bucks. This was the biggest of the bucks 20240924_175601.jpg
