Twist in plans due to twister: I had plans to go to New Orleans for the weekend but look like that may be changed, due to this twister that's out in the Gulf. So, with that being said maybe I can switch my plans to go hunting this Sunday. Sent from my VS987 using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Well team, I'm pretty much off the grid till I get back from the cabin on Tuesday. We have crappy Cell service up there, I can text but no email or internet. I can't even text pictures, only text. I'll give you all an update of the hunt on Tuesday or Wednesday when I get back. Be safe this weekend and turn some leaves red!!! Oh, if any of you have experience with NAP's Low KE broadheads I have a question posted in the general message board so feel free to respond. Best of luck this weekend killers!!! -D
Well nothing to report from the stand this morning. Got some scrapes on saplings @ feeder. Sent from my VS987 using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Spending the last hour and a half of daylight in the ground blind. Finished work. Ate supper and headed to the woods. Can't shoot one if you are not out there. Just getting as much time out here as I can.
We had a cold front drop temps by about 15 degrees yesterday. I've always had good hunts in October when we get that kind of swing in temps. Its like the deer know that they have limited time to enjoy the clover and alfalfa. They tend to move really early in the evening too. So, I slipped out of work at 4pm and headed out to a good stand for observation and a chance to get a shot. I ended up seeing around 30 deer and had a great hunt. I actually passed up a 4 or 5 year old mainframe 10 point that had a split brow on one side and a double G4 on the other making him count 12. He would be very solid 150's and might push close to 160. Not quite what I want to punch a tag on this early, but he definitely made me pick up my bow as he strolled by at 8 yards. It was a great start to the season for sure. At dark, I saw a buck that I would love to get a better look at.
Sounds like a great time out in the field Fletch. Saw three this morning 2 bucks and a doe. No shot. Found these by the truck when I came out. One of the young bucks was chasing a doe. Headed back out in a few.
That's true, but if Missouri was managed like Iowa, we could actually be one of the best states to hunt. We have some big deer, but I believe Iowa's age structure is much better than ours.
On my way nack into town so I've gotta keep it short. Put 50 on the board. I got her on my birthday too. Pics and story to come over the next few days. I've got some catching up to do at work and home. Will post to scorecard as time permits. Sent from my SM-G920P using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Saw 8 this afternoon but no shots. Four were pushed to me and past running full speed ahead as they passed. Never saw what caused them to come running by. Right at last light, too late to shoot, three come feeding in, in front of me and I'm stuck in the stand when a big hog comes by and pushes them out. Start to get down and get busted by one behind me. Pulled the camera card on the way out three different bucks 2 8's and a possible 10 and several does on camera. The two 8's have been there in the day time as have the does. At least the activity has picked up and the cool front got them moving today.
Saw a buck at last light but he was on the other end of the field, and I got blown at by a doe while I loading up my car.
