That's still a good start to the season. We begin here in Maine on expanded season on Saturday! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
We open on October 1st. I burned 20 acres of CRP yesterday and still have some more work to get done to be ready. We finally got some rain and the clover and alfalfa fields look much better. The deer are pounding them. I still have some Fall plots to get finished up and will work on those tonight.
Finally got the elevated deer blind delivered to our hunting land. By the time we got it delivered to it's new home, tilled/planted the food plots and put up 5 'regular' tree stands up, We just didn't have it in us to start on the actual construction of it. We are hoping to get it finished up this weekend. We have 3 food plots (really 'kill' plots I guess). This year we decided to shrink the 'main' one, just seemed to big for the area. It's the first picture. Second picture is our 'mini' plot (which seems to grow bigger every year). The third picture is the 'small' plot. This is the one where we are putting the elevated stand at. If you look close you can see my son in the background standing where the stand is going to go. We also finally got to see what's on camera this year for the first time. Here are a few of the bucks we are seeing. The last one (5 point) is one that may not score well but I think I'd have to shoot it because it's unique. At least to us.
Filled my buck tag in Ky this evening he went 112 3/8 there was some ground shrinkage but I'm happy with my first velvet buck Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Back from response to Texas and on standby to deploy to Florida. Need to get some shooting in and maybe plant food plots before we roll out on the road again. Sixteen days until season opens.
By the way GC. I saw your scorecard in the scoreboard thread. I couldn't help but notice that it was on a St. Jude notepad. They helped save my life many years ago (AML). Amazing place!!! -D
Outstanding! Congrats. Very clean looking velvet on him. One of these years I hope to get to hunt some velvet bucks on their early season pattern. That's a great way to get us started!
Thanks guy I appreciate it I'm gonna wait till it cools down to get my bonus deer, now I can focus all my rutcation on Ohio Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Opening morning here for the expanded zones up here in Maine, I'm chasing does Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Season starts Friday for us. I only have to work a 1/2 day so I will most likely get an evening sit in. At this point, I haven't found a buck that jumps out at me as a shooter. I'm hoping that over the next couple weeks, with them breaking up bachelor groups and corn starting to come out, that I'll find me a couple shooters. I'm just ready to be 20ft up in a tree stand with just me and mother nature!
We made progress on the elevated stand this last weekend. Still have to get the roof finished with shingles on, carpet put down, caulking all around and a permanent ladder installed but pretty happy with how it's going. Need to get in and finish this week since the season has already started.
