Got a European mount done on KS buck bloodrunner. As for scent control, I use ddw(sponsor). Works great as have all scent control products I've used over the years. I think most people don't go the extreme level that you need to to be successful with scent control. I wash everything that will be on hunt with me, bag it all. It never touches unwashed skin, car seats, tailgates etc. Change to naked in field, control sweat on walk in/out. Anything that can contaminate or hold scent needs to be controlled. Towel you dry with, clothes you wear if traveling from shower to stand in truck, release, strap on rangefinder, belt, hat, felt on bow rest etc. EVERYTHING! And if I feel it's been contaminated I rewash it all again. I see so many errors in scent control when I'm hunting with others. And I still don't know if you really beat a big mature bucks nose, can beat alot of the deer though. Enough of my soapbox lol Good luck out there everybody! Had a shooter at 75 yds last night, got a few more days to hunt before heading back to work. We'll see.

dcaldwell, I was just looking at your scorecard and it looks like you forgot 2 measurements. You only have 2 circumference measurements for the right side. You always get 4 on each side no matter how many points the deer has. Based on the other measurements, that should add another 7-8 inches to your score and help you clear the century mark!

I was wondering. Now I’m kinda upset at myself. Wonder if it can be adjusted

I'm sure if you send the admin in charge of the contest that they would allow you to alter your score. If it's an honest mistake I don't see why not.

Well I ended up buying a ground blind today. I ended up going with the Barronett Ground 350. I haven't had a chance to set it up yet to see how I like it but will probably take a better look at it tomorrow.

Did some final stand prep today....I know...I'm running a couple of weeks behind this year. On the plus side, the stand I hung tonight is on the upper edge of a doe bedding area and I could hear acorns dropping all around me while I was hanging it. Should be good!

Cold front came through tonight. Finally get some fall like weather for a few days anyway.

I hope I can get out sometime this weekend.

Wasn’t able to get an elk down this year. Had a really nice bull 40 yards first morning. They were really quiet.

Mostly trying for cows and meat. We had tags for either sex. Called 3 cows into buddy Thursday morning to 24 yards. Had him pinned down and on top of him before he could do much. Elk were quiet vocally. Unit was hunted hard for muzzleloader and bear.

    Here are some photos.

Bummer on the elk hunt but as long as you had a good time, that's all that really matters. I hung a set yesterday afternoon that I have a really good feeling about. I still have a couple ground blinds to put out and brush in but other than that I'm ready for the season. I did have a little mishap with my bow... The bolts on my rest worked their way loose with how much I've been shooting so I'm needing to get my bow into the shop to get it re-centered and paper tuned. Good luck to everyone whose season has already started and to the rest of you in your final preparations.

    Anybody hunting this weekend?

I'm heading out in a few minutes. Going to check out an abandoned farm place that I sometimes hunt.

Going to hunt from the ground today.

Brandon, have you ever tried bare shaft tuning your bow? It's what I do and once done, I can shoot any broadhead I choose without further adjustment. I always double check by shooting a broadhead a couple times though.

The best video about it can be found on YouTube it's posted by Ranch Fairy

No bummer at all. That is how elk hunting goes. We learned new things and a new area to hunt.

Here's one of the bucks I'm a little iffy on. It's one of the two I'm debating about putting on my hitlist. The other I've only gotten video of so I don't have a picture yet.[IMG][IMG]
