Shooting Easton fmj. Standard. No extra inserts. 100 grain slick trick viper trick I’m taking elk hunting. Might use them for deer too. They shoot really well at long distance for elk.

I was thinking the same thing NebMo, 50 degrees in the morning gives me the itch to get in a tree stand. Although I won’t be getting in until mid to late October, we don’t pressure hard in the early start of the season.

I don’t know about you all but it’s gonna warm back up by the end of this week here in Kentucky. Just a little tease I think.

So I’m a little sad now. I can still kill up to 3 does this year (actually more but I don’t see it happening) but killing my buck so early has me feeling a bit down. Excited but down none the less

Today I heard that a mountain lion has been seen moving in the creek that I hunt. Makes me nervous.

Set some trail cams up. Probably young male moving through if they aren’t in your area normally.

Nothing to be worried about. Your more likely to get hurt driving a vehicle or getting struck by lightning.

Haha...shot my buck opening day a few years ago. Makes the rest of the season seem anticlimatic.

Filling tags in the early season sure takes the pressure off to hunt in cold and nasty weather though. Unless you enjoy that kind of thing.

I usually do a hunt with my brother in November. Guess I’ll have to just get the little man his first deer. Lol

That feeling when you go out to the back yard to check your broadhead tune one more time and this happens.

Maybe I should shoot the broadhead first and the field point second. [IMG]

64 yards. One flyer that was user error. Leaf was the target. Leaving for elk hunt tonight. Feeing confident with the bow.

My 2 year old wants to go with. He has been elk calling with a toy baseball bat all week. He probably sounds better than I do. Haha.

Also got 3 cameras out yesterday taking videos.

Here the last couple days I have started practicing shooting sitting out of a ground blind. It's very new to me and is definitely more challenging than just shooting standing, but I'm getting the hang of it. Today I had pretty solid groupings out to 40 yards and I'll probably push that out to 50 and 60 by the end of the week.

Looks like everyone is tuned up and shooting pretty well! I have been shooting a fair bit this summer...headed to the PA Bowhunter's Festival on Saturday. Always a great time...everything from running deer targets, paper targets, 3D trails, etc. Great timing for final practice before season starts in about 2 weeks.

2 more long days! Dosnt look like ideal weather as it will be in the 80's but it beats working!
What is everyone using for field sprays/ detergents?
Ive used dead down wind for years but ive always been suspicious about it, thinking about making the change this year.

I don't use anything other than plain old ivory soap.

I read an article about how a test was set up to see how effective scent killers work against a dog. They all failed the best one only delayed the dog by a few seconds. Deer have better noses than dogs.

    Wind trumps all.

Hiding in a cedar tree while hunting from the ground helps some.

I am intrigued about smoking my clothes too.

Let me tell you, I washed all my clothes in dead down wind and just got fed up with the smell they still had, so I decided to smoke them in my hunting blind last year with a little campfire, my hunting clothes bin still smells like a ripe camp fire a year later. had deer come in close and never bust me but be ready to smell like a fire for the next 4 months lol
