Put an arrow in a 100ish point buck tonight. Unfortunately I've been unable to find it.

It was a good quartering away shot from about 15 yards but I only got about 6 inches of penetration. I think I single lunged him.

Tracked him for about half a mile and found him bedded and still alive with the arrow sticking out in a manner that removed any question about my shot placement.

I left him to go back and get the pickup. When I got back to finish him off, he was gone. Blood trail disappeared not to much further down the line. Even a dog lost the trail about the same place I did.

This was my first shot with a crossbow that my dad gave me a couple years ago. It's a Barnett recurve model. I had my arrow tipped with a 125 grain Wasp Jak-Hammer three blade expandable. I think that I had too much broadhead.

There is no doubt in my mind that a fixed blade head would have passed through or hit the off side shoulder after getting both lungs.

Live and learn I guess. If it doesn't snow too much tonight, I will look again tomorrow in the daylight.

Saw the main buck I’ve been after for first time this morning. Chasing a doe. Got to 185 yards. Just out of bow range. Haha.

Good looking deer. Cold morning. Truck read 19 when I got back in it. North wind.

I’ll be out for bowhunting until after shotgun that starts this weekend and runs 3 weeks.

Hoping for some snow for some late season food plot success.

    Good luck out there!!!

Any further tracking was halted by a blizzard on Sunday.

I've equipped my crossbow arrows with fixed blade tips. I'm anxious to see new and better results next time.

I shot a doe last night with my shotgun. I wish I would have taken my bow as it was only about a 40 yard shot. Illinois doesn't allow you to take both your bow and shotgun at the same time for whatever reason so I elected to take the shotgun with limited hunting time with the newborn. The deer have been hammering my beans the last week and a half though so I'm confident I should be able to put some points on the board. Both of the consistent shooters I've had on cam both made it through the first shotgun season as well.

Got him scored 116 5/8 my biggest so far. I’m pretty happy with that. I’m gonna get it posted in the scoring thread.

Any action lately? I'm out for the first time since losing my deer a couple weeks ago.

My crossbow arrows gave been reconfigured to include brass inserts and fixed blade broad heads. I'm confident that a repeat of the last fiasco isn't going to happen.

Nope. Firearm season just ended here in PA. I went out a couple times, but didn't get a shot at anything legal. Fingers crossed for the late season!

Shotgun season here. Was out this past weekend with shotgun. Saw two shooters, but no shots. That is good news for the rest of this year and next.

Going out this weekend with shotgun and that ends Sunday. Be out with a bow again after that. Hoping to at least fill a doe tag with bow.

I'm still making it out once or twice a week. I know at least one of my shooters made it through second shotgun season but I'm not sure about muzzleloader season because it just ended Sunday. I'm putting up a new ground blind today in a field of my neighbors about a 2 minute walk from my house. There's been a bunch of does piling out at last light and he wants some of them taken out because they damage his gardens and crops. We'll see how it goes!
