Debating about grabbing an Illinois license again, 2 hour drive to Illinois isn't bad, but at $500...that's a commitment; I may just stick to TN.
I've hunted the WMA Swamp (15min from the house), it's flat and hard to pattern, but it's bow only and surrounded by ag fields. It could pay off if I can figure a better access point. Only one tiny parking lot and entry access.
Other than that, just shooting the bow and getting house crap done so it doesn't hold me up when the season starts. I am ready for a good cold morning hunt, followed by a half nap/football day on the couch.

I hear you on the $500+.... Trying to have some out of state friends come hunt with me this fall or next, but that's a pretty big pricetag for someone to hunt just a few days. One day I'll get them here!

Works for me! Got a couple more cameras hung today, when I went to hang them earlier in the week two wouldn't even turn on, just too many seasons out in the elements I think. So bought a couple more and have one property mostly set, just need one more stand up but will be tough until the beans are out. Need to run to my other property this week and get some work done there.

I have only seen a button buck and a pile of doe. But I'm hoping this guy will stick around for another month and a half. He's around 350-400 I reckon. There's fawns all over the property, so I'm thinking he's looking for a snack. Does anyone know how to set the date and time on these old Tasco cameras? They're saying these are from February, but these are from last night! att.kIiFg8UrucqjTkJg_khhqElteOp779vTjyK_IjjtZTk.JPG att.RsPWD4WNnom6xZA00kZLmzbJj1ecGSNGDIS34wSqpzs.JPG att.vAUCeVn78oXANd59Xc0Vf6lOUhKH_DUtA5ccP2Ghllo.JPG

We are doing great on elk. We filled two out of four tags. Everyone in our group with elk tags had an opportunity.
When it comes to deer. Well that’s another story. There are three of us with deer tags. My son is the only one so far with a deer. we have been trying hard to get my granddaughter a deer with her bow. It hasn’t worked out. We have had a few stocks but can’t get the shot. I have had a handful of stocks and three I thought I was going to connect. I got close enough. I couldn’t get a clear shot. I only have till Friday. If I don’t get a deer by then. It will be November when I get out to Kansas.
Hey I’m on the mountain enjoying every minute of it

I got up to the high country this weekend; we set up camp at 8500 feet above sea level. We woke up with a light dusting of snow and ice on the tent. The snow and ice didn't last long but, boys, the cold is coming! On Saturday, we hunted above timberline (12,000 feet above...) and spotted 10 mtn goats, 15 elk (one nice herd bull), and 10 mule deer-five of which were bucks. With only a bear tag in hand, you can imagine my frustration of not being able to pursue. Today, I put a friend on 8 deer just below timberline....6 does and two bucks. We had a 25" wide 5x5 broadside at 63 yards. My friend passed on a shot because he does not practice nearly enough. I commend him for the pass...he recognized his abilities. Had I the tag, that deer would have been arrowed. Here's the shot. you call it.

I like Spi11. I will head the charge. Can you get a non-resident tag still in Illinois? Ya'll need to start thinking Colorado for hunting! I will gladly help anyone who would like to come!

Bill, my bear tag is in unit 48. Minturn is in unit 45 to the north...just one unit to the north. The season is young.

I have only dreamt of hunting Colorado... Would love some help getting my feet under me.

A side note... I got the itch really bad this weekend.... Sooooo I will not be hunting the archery opener this upcoming weekend in Wisconsin with a few friends. We plan to hit some public nearby my family cabin, it's all new to me so going in open minded!

This morning I put a stock on a couple good bucks. I was so focused on the bucks. I jumped 3 does that were in front of me. Of course everything took off. I have three more days,
