Looks like I picked up an Ohio deer hunt on October 18th and 19th . I am excited to hunt with an old friend, SeanWhipple. Sean just became the 243 Super Slam recipient.
I am not sure of the county as of yet. Sean has a house 35 minutes away from Cleveland, and Cleveland is where I fly into. One of my biggest deer ever taken was from Knox County, Ohio. Back in my soccer years, a teammate's family had a 66-acre farm near the small town of Jelloway. I was invited to hunt there. The day after Thanksgiving in 2002 I arrowed a 164", 15-point, monster. That day was one of the coldest days I have ever spent in the woods. I was wearing every article of clothing I had traveled with-including my PJs.
Trlblzr3, check this out. I went back to last year's deer contest (I like to study film) and found a post from one of your 911 teammate's Ohio deer. Shawn Clark shot a 166 buck which must be related to my Ohio deer. The genetics are so similar...split right brows, left antler kicker... Shawn's deer: My deer: I am getting fired up to hunt Ohio again! It's been fun reminiscing.
My biggest was in Knox County in 2011. He scored a little over 162 and weighed in at 254 lbs. It was just out of Bladensburg. It’s about a half hour south of Jelloway.
I've been hunting since I was little, and I still have yet to shoot a buck. I was a lot less interested as a kid, and I haven't been able to hunt for the last 5 years. Definitely excited to tag one this year!
Howdy gents Shocker “99” checking in! Sorry for the late entrance. My life has been Very busy this last year. I had a major back surgery in February, an elbow surgery a few months prior, got bronchitis and pneumonia so bad it liked to kill me. After shaking all that off with work, kids, and projects around the house I have to admit I’m way behind where I normally would be this time of year. . I haven’t run trail cams, haven’t planted crapola for plots, haven’t scouted since last winter, BUT….. my biggest bucks killed were products of absolute chaos. When I was least prepared. When my spirits and outlook were in the dump. So. Hopefully this season will produce some decent opportunities. I have a little under 300acres of private I can hunt. 200 of which is 5 min from my front door. I also hunt a lot of public here in Southern Illinois. Looking forward to wrapping up a bunch of these projects around my house and having a great season with you all!
All of my stands and cameras are hung and ready to go for the season, now to just narrow down some target bucks on each spot. I'm trying a bunch of new cam locations on my newer properties, excited to see if I can learn anything from them. One of these spots I got permission to bring a friend so deer camp this fall for a weekend or two is something I'm highly looking forward to.
I'm taking a trip up north this afternoon to check on some bear activity we've had lately. Finally got a buck on one of those cameras, but it's a button buck We've had a couple decent eights and a six down south, though.
Dang, long weekend. I'm back, bought some new hunting pants over the weekend, that's all I did for the season. I may talk a short walk this week/weekend to look for sign and get a half-ass plan together. I know the farm like the back of my hand, just need to get some new info. I try to stay out of the place as much as possible, but I'm getting antsy.
Well, tried to refresh a couple other cameras today, and no dice, absolutely won't turn on. So two more cameras bought and I'll get them hung Friday. Did get another lick set up and refreshed the scrape right by a bling in the bottoms. The spraying I did looks great and got some heavy rain on the new seed over the weekend, should be great in a couple months. Getting some pics rolling in from the one camera I've got going, excited to see what all shows up. But with some mature bucks already popping up, gives me hope that my place survived EHD better than my neighbors last year. Sent from my SM-S918U using Tapatalk
Good thing I have hunting buddies that have a little more time than me. 2 good’uns we got on cameras. One of them is on public. The other likes to barely let his pic get taken. But it’s enough to know I’m shooting if I see him! Nothing else to speak of that I would shoot. Not till later anyway haha.
I am getting excited for everyone. Dang! Those are some nice deer showing up on the cameras. I believe everyone has checked in. So, let's have some fun this season! Good luck tomorrow, Oldcarp!
Good luck. I was born in eastern Ohio and raised south of Columbus on a farm. Deer were scarce in the early 50s but some looked like Jersey cows.
We’ll see. It’s Illinois so there are good opportunities but time and kids sports and work all seem to dwindle the chances quite a bit haha.
