Well Gents, he wasn’t the biggest deer (scored 73.5”) but I am happy for the meat in the freezer. I am in S.Dakota with three other hunters. One hunter is going after her first ever buck and doing it with a bow. Being “tagged out” will allow me the opportunity to sit with her. She mentioned, “Every time I see a deer my heart races and I lose composure.” If I am there, maybe I can help calm her nerves. We’ll see…

The wind is whistling this Sunday morning. I can hear turkeys rumbling on roost in the distance. The sun is just now starting to light things up. It is hard to pattern deer in this landscape

I had a busy weekend down in Fulton County, IL. Saw a few dozen bucks, and passed some bucks that made me question my sanity lol. Got these younger fellas putting on a show for me Friday morning.

 

I had an interesting weekend. Squeezed in a few hunts. 2 of them were bogus. East wind threw me off and I had a hell of a time accessing a spot in the dark. Got turned around and tangled up in a mess of weeds and deadfall’s. Finally got setup in saddle about 10 min after shooting light. Pull my bow up and felt like puking. No QUIVER! It fell off somewhere in that mess I was hung up in. So I hung a camera then this guy comes by bout hr later.

Sunday evening I had a good encounter with him. Decided to pass him. Not quite there yet for this property. Here are 3 others. 2 that are definitely on the kill list. The first one I need a better look at. He may be young. The second 2 the arrow will be sent without hesitation. Fingers crossed! Hope to maybe take a couple 4-5 day weekends in the next few weeks.

 

Those east winds messed me up bad this weekend. Praying for better winds!

Trail on team five got a buck. it hasn’t been scored yet, but it may put them in the lead. I leave tomorrow for Kansas so hopefully I can put another 50 points on the board.
We’re doing pretty good keeping them on their toes.

Just got up in the stand. Hopefully can get a buck on the leaderboard soon! Had a little 8 point run in front of the truck on the way here, but I don’t think a 2001 Toyota Tundra is the right caliber of arrow for archery season

 

I’m out here, other than the absolute monster I saw driving in, haven’t seen anything.

I’m up. Been in here all morning. Moved due to wind swirling. Bumped a couple does but not hard. Haven’t seen squat from stand though. Have to go meet a guy who’s buying some graphs and trolling motor off me so that may bungle up my evening hunt idk.

 

All I had come in was a small six. Which of course gave me a broadside shot at 25 yards. Not once but twice. I had a good eight come in behind me and I could not get shot. My cousin got a doe. He was covered up in does this afternoon. Hopefully tomorrow will be my day. If I get towards the end of the week I will take a smaller buck. I would like to have a whitetail in my freezer.

 

Nothing this am. Very weird. Gonna chase pheasants in the am, maybe get back out in the afternoon.
