Didn’t make it out yesterday or today, had some things pop up. Going to arena cross tomorrow night, then I should have the weekend. Rain is coming Sunday, if it’s a light steady rain, I’ll for sure be out there.

Wanted to slip out after work today, but I came in a little later than I like. We'll see if I have time or not (probably not). Weekend weather looks pretty iffy, but when I have the time I want to be out if possible.

Arrrgh! Yesterday was a long day. I started work at 4 am, and didn’t get to bed until 12:40 am (eastern time). Needless to say, I slept through the alarm this morning. I didn’t get into the stand until 8:40. I almost pulled off a “ first minute miracle”. I had a doe walk straight to me at 20 yards; I was at full draw. She wouldn’t turn broadside. I let down. Then, she turned and took a few steps to the right. At 25 yards, she stopped in a position where her vitals were covered by a tree. She then turned and walked away. Not sure if God is teasing me or if Mr. Murphy just hates me. It is good to be finally hunting!

Good luck in Ohio. Hunted there for close to 20 years and enjoyed every minute of it.

I’m finally in a tree 2 hours after I started heading out. Talked to a friend that knows the pajama guy at the top of the hill. Went and talked to pajama man, he’s the brother of the land owner bordering my spot, he said I have free reign of the woods, just let him know when I’m behind his place so he doesn’t walk through.
I’m in the same tree I hunted last week, bumped three bucks within 70yards of this tree. I’m sure they won’t make another appearance this evening, but I’m gonna sit this evening and be back out just a little deeper in the morning.
I think I got the spot fellas, the storms rolling through all night, will be clearing early morning, I’m thinking the morning is gonna be solid…unless I get a chance at one this evening.

I had a forkie tonight at 20 yards broadside. Earlier, I had two bucks chasing a doe and another two forkies trotted past. It’s a good start…all fingers and toes crossed for tomorrow.

No luck this evening, got busted as I’m koalaing (koala) down the dang tree…it’s like it was just hiding waiting for the right time to yell at me.
But, all the traffic I saw tonight pointed me to a spot about 70 yards further into woods. Rain and cool weather on the way. Wife and som won’t get home from church until noonish, so I may sit all morning, but will only need the first 30min of legal light.

It’s been raining hard since noon. I hope it stops. No sightings today , but I’m not surprised because of the wind and rain. On a side note, I am only a red squirrel away from completing the Ohio Squirrel Slam (black, gray, and red). There are so many darn squirrels! There is a black squirrel with white stripes down his side. I named him”skunky” (yeah, I know. I am bored.) if I see him again, I am sending it! He’ ll make a nice life size conversation piece. All fingers crossed for evening action.

Note to self, never reveal your goals out loud . Mr. Murphy is always listening! I saw hundreds of red squirrels on Saturday. After I mentioned shooting one, I saw zero. Skunky was missed three times after I arrowed a black and a grey squirrel with a single arrow. The Ohio Squirrel Slam will have to wait. I was in Ohio to arrow a doe and big buck. I saw two does, none of which gave me a legit shot opportunity. Last night, I saw a 3- point and a 5 point. Both deer were slam dunks, but…

The Ohio tag is burning. I may need to return. We’ll see what South Dakota holds for me in the next two weekends.

    excited for you, Mr. Carp!

Little update from the weekend. Couldn't hunt either morning here in N IL, wind and rain were brutal both days. Sat evening I sat in my food plot, and had 5 does throughout the sit come feed into the plot, and right under my stand. Slipped out after undetected, and Sunday evening was KILLER. Had my landowners son drop me off again on the quad and worked wonders, I probably saw over 30 deer. This 10 pointer had me tempted but I am after some bigger ones for my second tag.

That looks like a little smaller of the buck I saw yesterday morning...of course I'm 70 yards in the woods and he decided to walk the field right by one of my other favorite field edge trees.

Oh well, I'll be out Wednesday afternoon!

I haven’t seen anything but squirrels and chipmunks the last two days. Neighbor’s dogs are running deer and ruining my spot. I went scouting on public land today and got rained out. Saw a porcupine, but that was it. I’m here till Saturday, so plenty of time for some deer or that bear to come through.
