The cattle are finally off the Oklahoma property I'll be hunting. No more cow pictures and some decent bucks are starting to show up. Resized_STC_0049_74983120387957.jpg Resized_STC_0347_74821595202394.jpg

Gun is dialed and my daughter is ready to kill her first deer. Probably taking her out Thursday or Friday night and this weekend. Supposed to cool down to 55 on Friday. Dropping the fence on the bean plot. I might hold her off on a doe but she will get final say. I can’t wait! She shot her first turkey this spring and is hooked!

Missed the wide one from the tree and killed him about 200 yards away the next day. Shot the split g2 buck Halloween of 2020.

Biggest buck to date was a gun buck unfortunately. He went right at 160 shot him December of 2020. [IMG]

Congrats to your dad! I know we all want you to get one but boy it's hard to top the feeling when someone close to us gets one down!

Getting my bow restrung and then I will be preparing for the November hunt on my parents property. Hopefully we can win this thing and then I can hunt Kansas next year and shoot a giant. Getting ready for a big day Friday, I am packing up and heading north a few hours to play in my first pickleball tournament. I've started a pickleball YouTube channel and am excited to film the whole tournament experience. Other than the extreme southern heat I think I'm ready!

Last golf outing of the year today... Thank God! Being in sales Golf is like a job for me - I am so sick of playing by this time of year. Then I feel guilty about complaining about playing too much golf.

Anyway - I am going to check a few cameras tomorrow to formulate a game plan for opening week. As it stands today it looks like the cold front will actually be here the last several days of September and then the first week of October will be slightly warmer unfortunately. I tend to take a kind of counter intuitive approach to October deer hunting... The first week of the season I prefer morning sits more than I do evening sits. The main reason is I like to take advantage of the cooler morning temps. just makes for a more enjoyable hunt than dealing with that afternoon sun, sweat and skeeters. I think on top of all that I really just don't worry about bumping deer during October AM hunts - I have 3 properties to hunt - I don't have a target buck as of now - I have plenty of stand locations and mobility on public.

    Can't wait!!

The more pictures I get of this buck, the younger I'm thinking he is. Maybe 2.5 but no older than 3.5. He'll probably get a pass because of his potential. STC_0117.jpg

Well… In the 4 years I’ve hunted this property the camera I just checked has been a revolving door of bucks. It’s never translated into a buck kill on this property but it’s given me a really good inventory and intel.

Disappointed to say not a single shooter or even close really on camera. I guess one could hope that means it will be better hunting than in past years when I’ve had them on camera just not in front of me when I’m hunting. But I don’t really subscribe to that train of thought…

Back to the drawing board perhaps.

I have seen bigger on this property, so he'll probably get a pass at least early on. Season opens tomorrow morning and I'll be in the stand early for a few hours. Grandkids have soccer games starting at 9am. I plan to hunt in the afternoon as well. Next weekend, Oklahoma season starts. I know there are some really good buck were I hunt. I have vacation first week in October. I work for the USDA, so there is a good possibility my vacation will be canceled if there is a government shutdown.

In an observation/rifle stand this morning. Easy access in and out. Nothing so far. Getting down shortly for grandkids soccer games. I'll hunt a different stand this afternoon. 20220924_082424.jpg 20220924_082431.jpg

My daughter shot her first deer tonight. She made a 90 yard shot and the doe made it about 50 yards and was done! So proud of her!

I'm hunting a stand that rarely gets hunted early season. Have a rare NNW wind this evening and I'm taking advantage of it.

These cool evenings have been fired for the start of the season!
