Heard something over my right shoulder this morning. Could just see 2 deer moving towards me. Turned around to look over my left shoulder and there stood mom, looking at me. She never spooked, just stomped her foot a couple times and wandered around. I even got drawn back on her at 15 yards. Did want to take mom, so I just took her picture.
I hunted Oklahoma Friday morning. No luck, didn't see anything. Muzzle loader started there today. A bunch of my son-in-law's friends had a camp setup for the weekend. The wind is terrible this weekend. Not much deer movement. Those guys are more interested in drinking beer than they are hunting. Probably won't get a chance to get out until next Sunday. Went out this morning and saw a group of 5 doe and fawn. Never came close enough for a shot though. Back in the woods right now even though it’s ridiculously hot for this time of year in Wisconsin; 75 right now. Gotta spend time in the woods though, can’t shoot them from the couch. Good luck to anyone else out hunting tonight.
Little windy, a little warm, but you can’t kill’em from your couch. Five does before 8:00, not a bad start to the day.
Had a doe come in on Tuesday and walked right under me. I hate it when that happens. She was getting a little nervous but eventually started to work into the plot. Drew back and she bolted. Glad it was just a doe and not a big buck lol. I will kill a doe I promise! Just only kill them when the weather is right or have lots of time to deal with one. I wasn't part of their group. My son is basically my only hunting partner and he was at work. We have had 1000 acres to ourselves during bow season. The wind was horrible all weekend and the last I heard they had only gotten one doe. I'm sure those guys will be back for rifle season. Hopefully we can get our target bucks down before then. With wind gusts 30+ mph and temperatures in the 80s, I sent a good portion of Sunday afternoon rearranging my hunting closet. Also went to look at some wood and was offered 1st chance at a lease for next season from a longtime friend. He drove me around to look at the property. Saw three deer, tons of rubs and scrapes. Saw 11 or 12 deer tonight and let this doe have it. Normally I don’t like to shoot does on work nights but she hung around too long and gave me a slight quartering away 17 yard shot. Couldn’t pass it up. She made it about 40 yards and piled up in sight. Last few bow deer I’ve made poor shots on so this shot really helped my confidence. My arrow zipped through her like butter!
