It probably seems early to you guys for my brassicas but we could get frost here within the next few weeks. Any time after sept first for us. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Fre
I've experience the same results. I've had turnips planted in the same spot 3 of the last 4 years. They would hit the green a little bit during early grown, but really never touched the turnips. It might be because the plot is in a low spot and the turnips tend to get too wet and spoil once we start to get the winter moisture. I had intended to convert that plot and about an acre of my soybeans into clover, but the weather prevented me from that.
They hammered them the first year I tried them. Each year I plant more and as soon as we get a hard frost they're gone in days. I planted an acre this year so we'll see if they eat all those. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Fre
It took the deer a couple years to figure them out on my place. They tear them up now. The first couple years I pulled some up and left them on the surface..That seemed to help the deer figure out what they were
Not really, a little bit. Mostly alfalfa hay fields. I have an alfalfa, chicory, clover etc plot they've been picking in all summer. I came into a lot of pea seed this year and threw that everywhere. If nothing else it will help my soil. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Fre
I disc mine in the spring and it chopped them up. The deer ate them when they're hungriest and now they love them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Fre
I'm pretty much surrounded with Ag, 3 sides to be exact. I think they tend to just stick to the readily available food source that they are used to around me. This might have been the year to have them since I have all this fallow land around me this year.
There's ag fairly close but that dries up soon here. My place is kinda the deer wintering ground. I have the last fields before miles and miles of bush. I don't usually see as many deer as I've been seeing for another month. I'm a little concerned cause I only have 1 doe around but 6 or more bucks. Should change soon. Last year was the first year we planted turnips in about 10 years, and our deer went NUTS for them. They hit the tops about the first week of September, then pretty much ignored them til the first week of November and it was game on until February. Only thing I've heard on tips is to not plant them more than two years in a row. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Pulled my cards today and am very disappointed. 1 card had 3600 pics and no decent bucks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Hung a couple stands today. Got a couple more to go on my place, then a couple on public. Sent from my LG-D850 using Tapatalk
Good deal. I've got one to swap, one to hang and one to think on. Hung two this weekend that should produce Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I hung my final stand this weekend so I have a total of 10 up. I also pulled cameras. No giants but some good looking bucks.
Saturday evening I scouted out a small 160 acre piece of public land that's bout 30 miles from my house. I have a large conservation area that's only about 4 miles from my house, but it gets a fair amount of activity and even though its about 3300 acres, it doesn't really hunt that big. That's where I killed my buck last year, and I plan on hunting it again this season, but I've been doing a bit of scouting with Google earth and I came up with this small piece of land that looks really promising. I think it gets overlooked because it's pretty small and also because it's considered a River Access area instead of your typical conservation area. Also, it's not really close to any large town, so not much change of city hunters. The only sign of hunter activity was a single old shotgun shell which I would guess came from dove season, but I walked the entire perimeter of the 40+ acres of soybeans and that was the only sign I found. I walked it about a week ago. I went back Saturday evening and just sat up an a ridge in the tree line to see what I could see. I didn't see any bucks, but I did have 3 does and two fawns come out into the field to feed. I set up pretty close to the road side of the field, so I'm betting there was more activity closer to the large chunk of timber. I'm going to go back and see scout that area out here in the next couple days. I have a real good feeling that this place could hold some really quality bucks.
Skywalker, I dont know if there is more woods North of this property but that looks like a great funnel/pinch point in the NE part of this property, tight along the river!
