Thanks. Since I'm not set up on the buck I'm after, the first doe that comes into bow range is in trouble. :D

Checked cams today and the bucks are still not what I'm looking for. Biggest might go 120". I'm taking my pastor's kid out for youth season. That starts the 19th so I need to find some bucks for him to shoot! Might end up just taking him to some public land and see what turns up.

I'm pretty bummed right now. I missed a stud of an 8 point this morning. I wish I could say he jumped the string but he didn't. I just rushed the shot and blew it. 10 yards broadside and I whiffed right over his back. I shaved hair and might have scratched him, but I didn't hurt him. He was in a bachelor group of 7 bucks, all in full velvet. I'd never seen a velvet buck before while hunting, let alone a 140-ish, 20" inside spread 8 point. I just got too anxious.

The 10 point that was in front of him might have been a better buck score wise but I couldn't draw on him because the big 8 was looking my way when he walked through the lane. I liked the wide 8 better anyway.

All in all I saw 10 deer and 9 were bucks. Three were deer I'd have gladly shot and I walked out empty-handed.

I relocated my stand to the spot I wanted to get in initially. I know where they were headed. If they travel through again they'll move through that choke point and now I know what to expect.

I'm back home now. I didn't see anything this morning and didn't care for the idea of sitting in a stand with the heat index pushing 100 degrees this afternoon. The wind is supposed to shift to the south for tomorrow morning and that's bad for every spot I have in Kentucky.

The forecast for next weekend says the highs will be in the mid 70s and it will be a new moon. Might be a good weekend if the forecast holds.

The first thing I did when I got home was shoot my bow. I shot the same arrow I missed with from 20 yards. That shot was dead on. I stepped back to 35 yards and shot another Slick Trick tipped arrow and destroyed the first arrow I shot. :(

At least I know it wasn't the bow. :)

I'm still beating myself up, but I know I'll get over it.

It's crazy hot here. 104f with the humidity. That's not normal for here. Going to the stand in the morning, suppose to cool off tomorrow.

Yeah, the afternoon sits are pretty miserable in that heat. Yesterday afternoon I was sitting there feeling the sweat running down my arms and sides. It's a nasty feeling.

Good luck tomorrow. I hope you fare better than I did yesterday morning.

I'll be back in Kentucky hunting Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Hopefully I'll get another crack at them before they shed their velvet. I've always wanted to kill a velvet buck.

Nothing dead this wknd Had a few real close encounters with bears. Fri I had 4 below me and had no tags for them. Today I had bear tags and one climbed the tree I was in. He was about 9 feet from my feet. Way to close for a shot. He took off soon as I leaned over and looked him in the eyes. Not a deer in sight though.

Lots of activity to start the seasons! Still 2 more weeks in MN. Why so many bears around you?
