Couldn't seal the deal on a late-season doe...Between holidays, getting Covid, and the ATA Show, I didn't really get out much over the past month. Tried taking it easy since I already had a buck tagged and cameras weren't showing much daytime movement at my local spot.
It was a blast! We saw anywhere from 4 to 10 does...depending on how many circled back around. I'll be back out there again before the contest ends.
My son and I each took another doe for the freezer last weekend. With 60% of our bucks already shed, probably calling it quits for deer. We've already found 6 sheds in our plots. Time to hit small game and coyotes. It's been a fun season and congrats to all that have connected!
I was hoping to get out yesterday afternoon, but it poured rain the last two hours of daylight so I didn't go. I have plans to hunt next Sunday. Saturday is out since my kids have basketball games all day. I would love to put down another deer or three before the season closes. Mathematically, a buck won't doing anything for us in the contest. But, I haven't gotten a buck with my bow since 2018, so I will kill one if I get the chance. Passed a lot of little bucks the last few years. I have until the end of February. Have a goose hunt planned with my brother for 2/10. That should be fun as long as the geese are still around. Light goose conservation hunt, no bag limits, no restrictions.
Well it was a fun season with you all. Good luck in the turkey woods and fishing boats this spring fellas. Wish you all the best.
I gave at shot last night guys. Went back to the same public land food plot that my son killed a doe on during the youth rifle weekend. Didn't see any bucks, gave a doe a hair cut. Unfortunately, my shot was about three inches lower than I needed it to be. Full story is posted in LFTS if you want to read it. It was a fun season, have a great off season!
I'm tapping out. That last hunt with my kid broke me. 3 different cars blew does out of the field and then a neighbor dog sniffed around for the final 20 mins of light. We snuck out of the blind to find our resident doe group feeding at the truck. Time to prep for next year!
This was definitely a fun year! One of the better teams I've been on since I started participating. Glad I was able to FINALLY contribute a decent buck, but unfortunately deer numbers aren't great at my local spots so a doe was not on the menu majority of this year! I would've slung an arrow at one during late season, but they outsmarted me once it got colder.
Great fun guys! I enjoyed getting to know you all a little better. Hope you all have a good off season filled with turkey, fish, and plenty of scouting for next season. Great knowing you all and may we meet on a team again!
