Sorry guys i should have posted here first. I backed out after tracking about a mile. Zero beds so we didnt push him and the blood was dryer the further we got down the track. After talking to different trackers they say the same. This deer will either live or it will take some time for him to die. I kick myself cause i held too high. But i took off day of work today to hang some cameras to see if i can see him alive. Hopefully he lives or i stumble on him dead today. Not happy with my shot performance so far this year. Missed that nice doe and now this. Good news is i bumped that doe today that i hit low. She seems to be doing ok.

It's all good man. We've all been there. Hopefully you'll stumble across him. If not just get back out there and get some redemption. Do you know how big he was approximately? Any guesses?

Holy Crap, my dad and brother are having an awesome trip. After 8 years of building points, my dad killed a huge moose an hour ago.

Man im not sure it happened so fast i couldnt get a super good look. Im gonna say he was 145-155” buck. Not a mega giant booner or anything but a solid buck. Saw some junk so that can add up he was definitely 4+yrs old.

Hey man, this is the only time in my life that I have been called a "10" I will take it. Sure wish Tryant Trudeau would pulled his head out his COVID butt in the summer instead of three weeks ago.:deadhorse:

@Shocker99 @heartstopper bad shots happen, sometimes we lose the deer. Don’t let it get you down, shake it off and get back out there.

Came home from coaching my older boys’ football practice and found that my youngest had a surprise for me. He knows deer like to eat acorns so he had filled a sandwich baggie full of acorns from the neighbor’s yard for me to take the next time I go hunting. He told me it was to help get the deer closer.

Got the buck i hoped i didnt shoot on camera this morning. Nice 3 y.o. We decided to pass this year. I was second guessing myself since everything happened so quick the other day. But im 99% sure the buck i shot was bigger than this guy. I guess this guy about 130-135” 8pt. Ok maybe 125 haha

You must be hunting some great bucks to pass that. On the public land where I hunt, 135 is getting an arrow all day.

This is private. We have been trying to half ass manage it and fighting a derelict, non-hunter, bored landowner who will just go off the wall and do crazy stuff like bush hog prime bedding cover in october. Or ride around on his 4 wheeler daily doing stuff we offer to do for him in the off season like spray invasive species. Bottom line its his property and he can do what he wants when he wants. The place has potential and weve made improvements eg. getting him to switch from crp program to wildlife program, hinge cutting, foodplots (half-ass). The bottoms he has have been logged a couple years back and we are seeing tremendous results from that. Thick nasty cover and finally getting some good bucks on camera. Come december if i havent filled my tag i may change my mind but i have video and pics of this buck as a 2yo and i think he has great potential even though hes only an 8 right now. But to your point, if i was hunting most of the public i hunt i would be killing this buck. Except for a handful of spots that have b&c potential. Im not too good trust me haha. I kind of have varying standards depending on where im hunting.

@cantexian I only had one target buck on this property. We call him HamBone. I posted him awhile back above. Just a big tank buck but he too is only an 8. This place has alot of 8,9,10pt genetics. Never seen more than a 10 killed out there. The buck i shot at i dont think was him because im thinking he had more than 4 points on his right side. A long g2 and g3 for sure but you know how it is in heat of moment. Didnt have time to count points.
This is him again just a fatty 16EFA96A-D4D5-4AC8-B47E-BEFD1FE25805.jpeg 33C22AA3-1896-4775-8014-837B79955586.jpeg

And this is another of the 3yo we want to “try” to pass. You can see the difference in age between the 2

Took off Nov 7 -11, most likely heading to join @LittleChief in his Missouri deer camp. I made the trip a couple of years ago and had a great time. Had a couple of close encounters with decent bucks and passed on a spike. Hopefully, the weather will be a little better this time around. Last time, we had a couple of really hot and windy days that killed the deer movement that year. Good, cold seasonal temps will be needed because that is the week of the full moon. If the trip to MO doesn't work out for some reason, I will still take the week off and hit my local spots.

Nov 5-6 is the first of two youth rifle seasons here in Arkansas, the second is Jan 7-8. I am hoping I can get one or both of my older boys a deer that weekend before hunting the week for myself.

See you there! That is exactly when I'm headed to "Camp LC" to hang with the killer himself. Looks like several of us will be there.
