Indiana is showing me just how hard the Midwest big woods are to hunt. It’s still thick cover and extremely green. You cannot see the deer. I’ve seen one…a small button buck I quickly named “3.14”- as in Pi…cutie Pi. I’ll be back for another full day sit tomorrow. I am praying for a solid 8 point. I must say, it is difficult giving up the home court advantage for a shot in the dark deer. Without any general knowledge of the area, it is difficult to know what to shoot. Good luck out there everyone! Stay safe and healthy!

It’s a frost on the windshield morning. I was on stand 45 minutes before first light. I really enjoy listening to the woods come alive, today was phenomenal, A multitude of small birds broke the silence. They were followed by two roosters in the distance, crows, and a croaking frog. I could hear what I assumed were mice rustling in the leaves behind. Whatever it was, it was neither deer nor big enough to see from my high perch. I could hear the racing of diesel truck motors off in the distance, along with the beep, beep, beep of a backup indicator. Further, a man step out and and yelled at his dog to “shut up”. From my position two creatures were barking. There’s a hound dog out there somewhere. His low bellow drifts endless thru the woods. Both geese and ducks are V’ing their way overhead. I’m guessing lake Monroe is their destination. The woodpeckers have started early. The squirrels are up. Their jumping on the forest floor has me on alert. If one comes close enough, he may get stuck. I am not leaving Indiana without at least one shot. A day and a half left.

    best of luck everyone!

Bout to butcher that doe. Been great weather to hang her. Then work tomorrow, and hunting hard the rest of the week.

I said I wouldn’t leave without a shot. The 34 hours over 3.5 days in stand wore me down. I saw “Pi” on the first day, a small fork horn yesterday (at 50 yards in tight cover) and a freak daddy. I never saw a doe. I am leaving a happy man; I kept my promise.

I bumped into a gentleman at the airport who was hunting north of Indy for the same four days as me. He told me he saw over 200 deer on his trip. I was naturally comparing his number to mine (3). I asked if the corn and beans around his spot had been harvested. He replied 100%. That was the difference. The deer in my area still had the luxury of hiding in and not moving out of ag crops. As soon as those crop are cut, deer will start dropping. I cannot tell ya’ll if they were chasing or not. I never saw a doe. The buck I killed was definitely cruising. I saw three scraps.

All things considered I think I will be back to 95% with the exception of taste and smell but at this point, I’ll take it. Hoping to hit a stand in the next couple days.

Sorry I haven't been posting much, like everyone I'm sure just busy as heck!!
I started 3 weeks vac on the 30th of Oct and don't go back till Nov 22nd!!

Weird year with 0 pics of shooter bucks until Oct 20th or so then it's like someone opened the gates and here they came. Got 3 or 4 deer I will shoot and they are hanging around quite a bit. I did manage to put a few points on scoreboard for us last night with a doe so now it's 140 pts or so I'm after!!

I’m so envious of everyone still in the woods! What I would give for all the time in the World…
