congrats putting some does down this year - been out a few times seen one decent 8 pointer but still needed to grow some more - will hopefully make it back out Saturday
Hope your finger heals up well, so you can get back out there - looking forward to a pic of you with that monster you had on camera
Sorry to hear about your finger IV. Hope it heals up ASAP and you can get back in to woods. I'll be heading home this weekend and hope to get some time in the stand if everything goes as planned. I'm gonna take my video camera and hopefully get that 8-pointer on film this time so I can get some input on his possible score. He had pretty good tine length, but I was having problems getting a score guesstimation on him.
Congrats to Bowfreak, Brknarrow, New61375 and m98jack for all getting us on the board and in pretty good standing so far. Time for the rest of us to start putting it to them! Good luck.
I'll be heading home from school today and hope to get into the stand by about 4 this afternoon. I'm taking a video camera with me this time so hopefully I can come away with some cool footage to share. Good luck to everyone else that will be hunting this weekend as well.
Temperature is shifting down...finally. It has been pretty warm and windy but it seems to be cooling off. Lows are getting down in the low 40s but the highs are still up around 70. Not great but better anyway. 15 to 30 mph winds for most of the weekend but it looks like they are dieing off come Sunday p.m. Next week could be nice, blackpowder starts Oct. 30 so I will have to deal with more pressure then, I would love to get 2 or 3 good days in before that. Have seen a little scraping so far but I imagine it will pick up a lot between now and the last week of October. Good luck everyone.
Good luck this weekend guys Temps are dropping a little here so I'll be in the stand this weekend. I'm going to break out the climber tomorrow and try and go mobile. To many acorns on the ground........
Crickets chirping................kinda quiet round here. Anybody deer hunting? I am leaving Thursday at lunch to hunt on VAs' Eastern Shore. Hunting Thursday p.m., Friday all day, and Saturday a.m.(daughters b-day party is at 4). I am excited to get over there and see if the bucks are starting to get wound up. I hunt in Chesapeake, VA as well and have just started seeing some big active scrapes. I put my trail cam on one yesterday just to see what's happening. Unfortunately it is shotgun season there because in this particular area gun season comes in on Oct.1 and bow doesn't come in until Dec.1. Don't get me wrong I enjoy shotgun hunting but the pressure changes the deer movement up a lot. Anywho good luck everybody.
I only got one sit in this past weekend. I really need to get out in the morning sometime because both of my sits so far have been evening sits. I have a feeling that the deer around me are probably moving more in the morning with the temps being lower. It's been about a high of 70 every day here for the past couple weeks. I'm ready for a cold front to move through! I won't be back home this weekend from school, so the next time I'm going to be able to get out is Halloween weekend.
Had a great night last night on stand. Seen, 1 beaver, 1 woodchuck, 2 coons, 13, does, and 2 bucks. The 2 bucks were chasing the does and fawns everywhere last night. Both bucks were only 1.5yr olds, but it was definitly fun to watch. I will be leaving Sat. to head down to my hunting area in Ohio for 7 days. Getting really excited to get back down there and see whats going on.
Put a couple more slicks on the ground and work is definitely hectic but hitting the woods every chance I can, have let 3 bucks walk so far but should seen some bigger boys romping around in the next few weeks - good luck fellows and stay safe out there
It's been hot down here the last week. I've been out a couple times but between the temps and the acorns on the ground the activity has been low
I had to replace the floor in the bathroom last weekend so I didn't get to hunt. This weekend has rain in the forecast. Been seeing a few in the fields in the mornings, just wish I had more time to go.
going back in the am and thinking of hunting all weekend high's in the 70's and full moon too boot but found a hot persimmon tree and will be sitting over it tomorrow night - should be a good sit - good luck we need some bone on the ground
shot at a doe tonight, cant find arrow and color blind so don't see blood. Looked after I got out of stand and didn't see anything from the last spot I saw her.
Any luck finding her IV? I saw a really nice buck Friday evening, walked by at 60 yards. I still have standing corn so I'm hoping he sticks around for awhile. I didn't hunt there the rest of the weekend due to the winds. Saw a doe sat morning at a different property, nothing sat evening or Sunday.
Pulling cameras today. I've got some smaller bucks on camera the last couple weeks, but no shooters yet. I'm running out of time to put a doe on the ground
