We've got a lot of good genetics in our area. However, I've lacked on the luck side of things these past couple years. In the last 5 years we've had a lot of nice deer killed on us and surrounding properties, including a buck grossing just under 200" that my dad shot, a 140" my dad shot, a 185" net typical that the neighbor shot, and rumored big deer that neighbors shot last year and couldn't find. I'm hoping things will go my way this year. Last year I passed on a couple of good 2 1/2 year olds that had about 115" of bone, and neither of them were killed last year, so hopefully they're still around. My dad saw two bucks last year while on stand that would gross in the 150-160" and 180" that we don't think got killed either. As I said, I haven't had time to do much scouting this year, but I know they're around. I've just got to be in the right place at the right time.
I definitly agree. I also spend a good amount of time in the big buck state of Ohio. If I could tag out early there I would possible be headed to another good state.
Brandon, instead of putting a lot of weight on the inches, look at the buck and determine whether or not you'd be happy with that hanging of the wall. If the answer is no, don't release. If the answer is yes, put'er to him.
These are some of the bucks that I have been getting pictures of on a weekly basis. This is a little food plot I have tucked back in the woods. It is butted up to a great bedding are which are where these deer are living.
3 bucks from 3 different farms that I hunt. The dark pic is actually from the 30 acres that I own/live on. I wish I could get a better pic (daytime) of him, he looks to be decent. I'm still after the buck that dropped these, although we haven't seen him since August 2009. He had a matching droptine on the other side when we saw him then. No sheds from him last spring, no word of anyone killing him either. I'm trying to convince myself he's still out there, but its getting difficult.
My schedule so far (as it always changes) is: Mid September teaching in Washington, Mid October in DC to meet w/brass, and 1st week in November teaching (in a place yet to be determined). I spoke to the powers that be about this November and they assure me it will not happen again. (I'll believe that when I actually see it). As of October 1st, I will be in stands when not away teaching.
Those sheds are crazy! Just a little more info beyond where I hunt, my name is Nate I am 35 and married with 2 boys(16, 9) and 1 girl(4). I do inspection and maintenance packages one all kinds of Lifting & Handling Equipment and at night I become a bartender (not at Mister Cacciatore's). Love spending time with my fam camping, hiking, canoeing, beach, movies, etc. Really looking forward to this season and both the boys really seem to be developing their own excitment/anticipation for the upcoming season as well, I can see the change from them just being happy and excited to hunt with dad to them being happy and excited to hunt period, pretty cool. Working 2 jobs and staying helpful on the home front limits my hunting time for now and I'm sure many, if not all of you guys can relate. That being said I will still be hunting hard and chasing down some points for Team #10.
Volunteers for team captain??? Suggestions for team name??? Where we gonna get our avatar??? Who shot JR??? ...
I never admit defeat! In fact this year with me challenging you and another guy, I'll go undefeated for the whole season!
