My daughters softball practice got rained out yesterday so I ended up getting my first sit in. I got skunked, didn't see anything but squirrels. I wasn't too surprised though, I played the wind and set up in a stand i don't hunt that often.

Only got out 1 time this past weekend. Should have been 3, but travel and weather prevented that. Would have been great sits too I'm afraid with the front and cool weather temps in WI. Saturday night I sat the edge of some intersecting oak ridges the open up into a secluded bean field. Saw 7 deer, 5 were bucks. Had a buck I call 2014 come in to 70 yards. He's a 130 inch 9. As his name indicates he is on the let grow list. Unfortunately there are a lot of bucks like that on my inventory this year. One other buck was promising, but I didn't get a good luck at him as he skirted the ridge on me. Altogether great hunt and entry/exit worked flawlessly for the S wind.

Also spent a lot of time getting rest of gear together and shooting bow. Lots of range shooting this year so it was nice to finally shoot farther then 35 yards and get sighted into at least 50.

Lastly, I am filming this year so I spent a lot of time experimenting more with packing and using my muddy tree arm, monfrotto fluid head and camera in combination with muddy sticks and vantage stand. I freshened 1/2 of mineral sites. This upcoming weekend I need to finish mock scrapes and move last of the cameras. Right now 3 are not even in the woods. Altogether great weekend and I will likely get out next weekend for 1 hunt again. Then it may be awhile as my hunting will be primarily be the end of october and november focused this year. Lets make it an effort to get on the does early! Happy Hunting.

Is this 2013 or 2012? I swear its a replay of last season. First sit deer out of range. 2nd sit busted. Lets hope sit 3 ends with a kill like last season did.

You can text me from the stand anytime you want Sticks.

Who's getting out this weekend? I should find out in the next couple of days if my four day weekend (3rd-6th) is gonna work out.

Back at it in the morning. This is shaping up to look pretty good. We have a front that will be finishing up mid way through the night. Its a full moon but super cloudy and can't even tell the moon is up. It's looking really good for blood shed in the morning. Now up to me to get it done.

Ok guys i'm gonna share a pic! hope too many aren't too judgemental, especially since we are all hunters, and if its legal where you hunt then I say go for it! Anyway some of you guys or gals may hunt in states that don't allow baiting, but here in Texas we do and I take full advantage of it! These guys come in every night folks, none during the daylight but they will eventually.... Please keep and open mind... not wanting to start some sort of debacle on here... Like I said, if its legal in your area I say go for it!

Nice work Hoyt! I always keep a few mouth calls in my backpack. That reminds me... I need to throw a call in my truck so I can practice on my way to and from work.
