I'm back at it tomorrow in the PM (I'll continue my mission Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). Hopefully things break loose. We have had a spike in temp past few days and will of had gloomy rainy weather for 3 days going into Friday and temps residing from where they are. Should get deer on their feet and active with estrous in the air.

It has been raining here for the last two and a half days. Some really hard rain at times. It's supposed to stop by early this afternoon, and I will be hunting my first ever Halloween hunt. I'm going to set up on my east fence row, set the Boss Buck decoy out in the beans and hope one of my shooters comes out to challenge it. Surely there will be good deer movement due to the weather we've had the last couple days. I should be able to get in and set up silently since everything will be wet.

Now, I just have to finish out my at work.....

For those of you not on my text message list I shot a buck yesterday morning. I'll get pictures up eventually. He is a great buck and I am very proud of him! Not one of the true monarchs that I had running around, but a mature buck none the less. I filmed him the night before and this was my 6th encounter with him. I didn't get kill on film. 51 yards and the Blood Runner did work. Pics and video to come. Happy Hunting!

This is the pre-roll from my buck the night before I shot him. I had 3 bucks see the decoy that night. A 1 1/2 and a 2 1/2 both came in, but he didn't want anything to do with the Carry Lite. Not the best video and I should of zoomed more, but this was at 80 yards and I wanted to try and harvest him too!

Congrats Dunn!!! I'll have to watch the video when I get home, can't watch it here at work. Hopefully that will get the momentum rolling.

It's been the weirdest year of hunting to date for me. I hadn't seen any decent bucks while out, and only a couple young ones. That's just not normal for me. Usually I see good numbers of decent bucks while hunting in the early season. Last night finally marked a bit of a shift in that and hopefully a sign that the more mature deer are starting to get on their feet during daylight in my area. Had a nice 8pt out in the beans by 3:45 last night, he stayed out there for about an hour. Had a small buck following a doe, and ended up pushing her right towards that 8pt. He saw her, walked up to her, took a sniff and went back to eating. No real noticeable rut activity here yet. That little buck did walk down to my stand, tended a scrape near the base of my stand, crossed the ditch and made a rub on a little cedar tree. I was a little surprised that the two bucks weren't aggressive towards each other, and the that the 8pt wasn't interested in the doe. Maybe they will be a little more rutty next weekend.

With the rut starting to heat up I've been doing a lot of moving around on some of the farms I hunt. On Nov 3rd I decided to hunt a hang on In a big pine off a hay field bout 18 feet up. I got up at 11 am ate some lunch and started feeling very tired right away. I threw in a dip to help keep me awake But checking traps at 2am so I could hunt all day had already taken it's toll. The last thing I remember is that butterfly feeling in your stomach that you get on roller coasters. I fell asleep and was leaning forward in stand I front flipped 18 feet o the ground bouncing off tree branches on my way down but remember I was still asleep when falling. I woke up about 2 hrs later i had been unconscious this whole time I didn't know what happened I just wondered why I was breathing so loud and I was probably scaring deer. Later i realized what happened and I limped toward my brothers stand. He couldn't believe it he went back to my stand and wgot all my stuff for me and the 10 minute walk out would be an hr bc the speed I had to go. IM laying in my bed now after been at the er all night I can barely move and I have a pile of coons that need skinning still gonna have to man up I guess.

If there is anything you take out of this that is wear your harness. I had mine on for the morning hunt as well as avery other hunt this year. Last night I didn't and thats the way it goes. I said a Prayer when I first climbed up asking to keep me and my brother safe in our trees and to let big bucks be abundant. I think im alive and typing today for that reason...

Wow man, glad you are Ok. Please, never climb into your stand without a harness on again, it's just not worth the risks. I don't want to come off as scolding you, but we all know better. The older I get, the more I realize how fragile we are. When I was was young, I was sure I could run through a brick wall, but now I'm well aware of how easily accidents happen.. Be safe out there, I'm just thankful we didn't lose a team member.

Ohh my that is not cool stuff. I'm glad you were not seriously injured! Please be careful out there team and encourage friends and family to do the same. I know many of us think it will never happen to us, but why chance it. Stay safe and good luck to those in the timber. Happy hunting!
