I noticed that. My wife and I are going to try the idea I had tomorrow I believe.

Bummer, that's the one I was gonna mess around with. I'll try to work up that banner idea I had. We'll see

I'm surprised MDC didn't add Sullivan and Adair into thei CDW management zone. Macon, Linn, Chariton and Randolph all have new special regulations to try and slow the spread of CWD. Sounds like they have killed a couple thousand deer in those counties to test for CWD over last couple years. Hopefully they can get on top of the situation before it gets out of control.

I hunt Dekalb County, and maybe some in Worth County.

Actually they did. We are in the containment zone or whatever they are calling it. They are still letting us do food plots but no more feeders or minerals. They lifted the 4pt rule in the 6 counties you mentioned. They haven't found any cases near us (or anywhere in Sullivan Co.) so we're not gonna start taking small bucks yet. They also put some regulations on transportation of dead deer and want us to get all of our kills tested. It's a bummer about the minerals but we don't think it will hurt the hunting much until they start having deer closer to us test positive. In 2011-2012 there have been 5 reported cases of free-ranging CWD in Macon and Linn counties and up to 8 cases reported in captive deer on a private Macon county facility dating back to 2010. I sure hope they can nip this in the bud before the whole region gets the shaft.

I see, for some reason I thought it was only those 4 counties. Hopefully they can get this under control, it could be bad news for the entire state if they don't. Hopefully people will be smart, abide by the regulations and do the right thing to help control the spread.

I agree! As of now (2012 season) I think the key is for everyone in the "containment zone" to get their deer tested so MDC can track the spread. When infected deer start showing up outside of Linn and Macon it may start to get ugly. For now it's good to know that there have only been 5 positive tests in "free-ranging" deer in one small section right on the boarder of Macon and Linn.
Here is a link to the MDC article with a map, new regs, etc. if you're interested.

I've got some cleaning up to do but this should give you an idea of what I'm going for. I'll try to have something finished by Tuesday or Wednesday. Please feel free to critique. Any ideas are welcome. Again this would be used as a signature banner not the avatar.

My wife and I are playing around with some pics she took today. She is doing the editing now so we will see. What I had in mind and what she came up with are pretty good. Just don't know how it's going to come out just yet!

On another note, I did some scouting this afternoon and found one hot beat down trail. I have overlooked this little place for 3 seasons now. I have had a feeling about it but just have stayed out of it. Why? I'm not the brightest I guess. One nasty big rub line in a ditch. I thought it was more die travel at first then I found the ditch line with two 8"-10" cedars and they were every bit head high! I'm 5' 10"!!! I know not super tall but this is promising to me.

I live in the "containment zone" as well. I read an article by Dr. James Kroll where he stated that herd eradication was not an effective plan for managing CWD. I hope we don't get too rash with our regs so that we have to spend the next 20 years recuperating, especially if there is a better way. He outlines his idea for controlling CWD in an upcoming article.

The problem w. CWD is that an infected deer can carry it for upto 18 months before it shows any signs, all while it could be infecting other deer. The other issue is that the disease is carried by prions, which can exist in the environment for an unknown amount of time. I just hope they take all the necessary steps to stop this where it is before it starts to spread. It's such a difficult disease because you have no way to know the carriers, and no way to test live deer. I guess this years harvest will help tell the tale.

So I thought I’d post something to get us back on the front page.

I work about 5 minutes from a park with a free public archery range. So I brought my bow and my bag target to work today to sneak in 30 minutes or so of practice over lunch. My whole way to work I was thinking about how to best spend my short practice session. I was really looking forward to shooting this afternoon at some decent ranges. I can only safely shoot about 15yards in my back yard. After a quick double check of my pins I was gonna focus on 35yards (the limit I’ve set for myself this year). So when I get to work, I sit down at my desk and up pops my Outlook calendar. 12:00 to 1:00 lunch with the boss. Not just any boss but the bosses boss. I totally forgot about it and I was crushed! Oh well, there’s always tomorrow.

I'll be in the woods this Saturday. I'm still trying to determine where my brother and I will sit. Scouting Friday evening and camera pulls on Thursday and Friday may be what tips the scale towards a specific stand. I have a couple big boys around around 120 acre piece of property, however, they have also been seen on another property of ours that is separated by land that is not ours. Really debating on what to do...... If they are still there I may get aggressive, if sign doesn't show them frequenting often then I'll stay out on the fringes for fear of bumping them. Any more insight for me guys?

I think you have that one under control brother!

Actually Im doing something similar This weekend but, I'm throwing out some corn to try and bust a doe. I want to put us on the board but I'm ready for some bacon wrapped back straps!

I scouted a spot last night that is tore up with fresh tracks. This rain we have gotten and cool weather has kept the ground soft. This has made for some break throughs in my solving the puzzle to early season travel on my property.

I'll predict we all kill a doe each and a 12+ buck each:lol: That should put us in the money.

I do predict that I will put down my first deer on film this season, that's one of my goals for the year.
