WE had 2.5 to 4 in here. I was pretty pissed at all my deer when I had to plant my soybeans for the third time this spring. They ate them off and killed them the first two times. They couldnt with stand the browse pressure with no rain to make them grow. Now I love my deer because my beans will be great from this rain They will actually fill the pods unlike quite a few of the farmers beans that were planted early. THis rain will make some huge turnips in the midwest.
I know a lot of guys using electric fences, especially on smaller plots with no other food close by. I farm as well and I'm glad we didn't get our beans in until late. We also used a long season bean so ours will hopefully fill the pods. Im sure this rain helped alot of deer and farmers. The deer will really need good fall and winter food given the tough conditions this summer!
hoyt_64, what area of North Missouri are you in? We has a great long soaking rain that lasted about 24 hours or more. It was exactly what we needed. I don't know how much we got, but it came down slow enough, it had a chance to really soak in. I had over seed some turnips and sugar beats into my beans around a few of my stands last Friday. We had some rain last weekend too, and they are already coming up good. I'm really anxious to see how the sugar beats do. I have a feeling they could be dynamite.
Linn and Chariton counties. You should be set up really good with those brassica sowed into beans. Late season should be great, especially if we get a cold snap. Now comes the hardest part...at least for me. I have the urge to go in every week or so to check the plots and see how well they are doing. It's hard for me to stay away, but the best thing is to not go back until it's time to hunt!
If you haven't got a chance to vote on a team name yet make sure you do soon. Our captain is going to tally things up tomorrow and lock in our team name. Anyone have any skills to create a cool avatar? I vote myself out of that conversation.
I'm giving it until 5:00pm tomorrow Wed. 9/5. Please guys vote. It's looking like nocked and locked is the direction we are headed. That or Prime Time.
Either name works for me. (how's that for non-committal?) I was out at my hunting area yesterday. Saw a doe and a fawn and jumped a pretty decent buck while I was wandering around in the woods looking for a place for a treestand. So that has me hopeful.
Looks like we have a tie. Prime Time=3 votes Nocked and locked=3 votes. Suggestions on how to break this one? The next poster post one of the two names and that's what it is! Christine, go ahead with your noncommittal self and break this tie!! Haha!
Sticks when does your season come in? I wish franki and I would of went to kentucky or something, Im ready to get in the tree.
Comes in Saturday but, I have TI work all day! Good thing we have Archery private land Sundays! I may make or to the stand. I'm ready now!!
I hear you guys. Season opens in 2 weeks here in WI, however, I really wish I had arranged something for another state for the past couple weeks at least.
Its driving me crazy. Saw a nice 140 8 point last night on my way home. He was rubbing his velvet off on some willow trees that are below my house. He just stood there in a daze 10 yards from the car. My 5 year old boy loved it. I think I have been naming my deer to much because my little guy was confused that I didnt know the deers name.
