I was thinking the same thing.
Nice work! I really want to get a 'yote. We've got quite a few on the trail cam.

So team, having never participated in this contest before. Is it bad that we don't have any animals on the ground besides a yote? I mean, should we have had a strong start or is it one of those things that will come down to the wire, like the final day of the contest? I mean I havnt even gotten to climb in a tree yet and some teams already have multiple animals on the ground.

Great Yote. Hoping to have a couple stumble upon me as the season progresses.

Yeah were not exactly off to a flying start, but it all depends on where everyone hunts and when they make their push to harvest deer. Hopefully, someone will jump start us though. I will sit 1 time in the next 2 weeks. Then I'll get out the weekend of Oct. 13th and skip a weekend before hitting it hard.

This past weekend there were points where I had seen more bear then deer. There are bear around, but never in my years of hunting have I seen as many as I did this weekend combined. In three sits on 3 different farms I seen bear. Sit 1: 3 cubs, sit 2: A sow and 2 cubs, sit 3: 2 sows and 2 cubs. My brother seen a sow and 3 cubs two nights prior. Deer sighting were minimal even with the great weather. Felt like November sitting on a quiet 28 degree morning. MY optimism with the weather wasn't enough though as my sightings were low.

Having never participated in this contest myself, I don’t think it’s a very big deal that we don’t have any tags filled yet. Now, if we don’t have anything by mid-October I’ll start to get a little worried. If you look at last years score card, there are 2 pages of entries for September and 6 ½ pages for October. I didn't look but I'm sure November had it's fair share of entries too. It’s kinda like the baseball season. Never look at the standings till Memorial Day. For the purpose of this competition I see Memorial Day being somewhere in mid-October. Then we’ll still have the rut in front of us. Don’t worry yet… but it’s almost time to start making hay.

Here is the score card of last years winning team. As you can see they had 14 deer; 8 does and 6 bucks with the bucks averaging just over 116. I think that is doable but we'll need a nice percentage of the team to contribute does (hopefully I can be one of them the first weekend of October).

    Team 27 - Total - 1097 1/8"
    Monster Raxx - 50
    rizzo999- 50
    iHunt - 151 3/8
    evilstuff - 50
    wibowhuntr - 50
    rknierim- 50
    iHunt - 50
    racewayking - 50
    MNPurple - 116 3/8"
    rknierim - 67 1/8"
    Hide-A-Bow - 50
    Hide-A-Bow - 145 2/8"
    peakrut - 116 7/8"
    rizzo999- 100 1/8

Well, I should have put us on the board with a doe Saturday evening. Made an early season mistake. She had been feeding in my food plot at about 40 yards for about 35 minutes. She gave me several opportunities broadside around 40 yards, but I decided to wait for a closer shot. Finally she starts heading west and crosses in front of me at 30 yards. I stop her, and let it fly. Right over her back. I had ranged her earlier and had 40 yards in my head and apparently put the 40 yard pin on her. Luckily it was a clean miss and she was none the wiser. hopefully I'll take better advantage of my next opportunity.

I wouldn't sweat it till the 3rd week of November. Go out and hunt, enjoy the season and let the contest be for pure pleasure and bragging rights. After all, this is just the Internet! ;)

I'll be hanging from a tree come 5:00pm! If I see a doe I'm taking her! Of course if a decent buck comes in, well, I'll have to take him. I'll post a pic or two when I'm settled in!

We might be starting off slow as a team but it's waaaay too early to be concerned.

I'll be out as much as I can as soon as season opens here. I'm a bit worried about what impact EHD had where I hunt. Hopefully, it's minimal.
I'll be looking for a doe first, if and when I get a doe... then I can start looking for bucks. (but to be honest, I rarely see shooters before late October)

    Good luck guys!

    Good luck!

BTW, if any of you teammates want to text me, my cell # is eight-four-seven 913 3601. (let me know who you are if you text, so I don't play the "uh, who are you?" game.) :) I can't surf the net while I'm hunting but texts usually come through.

Like I said before I will be good for a doe if I shoot a buck. However, I'm all or none.

I'm just curious! Has anyone here ever used deer dander or ever calm? If so do you believe they work and why? I have been intrigued by these products and curiosity is about to kill this cat.. So before I shell out the few extra bucks, I thought I might like to get your input...

We use deer dander quite a bit. I have always strongly believed in the product. It has always worked good for me.

What exactly does deer dander do and is it a manufactured product? If so who produces it?

You can add me to the text list. I don’t get voice or data from my hunting area so “live from the stand” is out of the question. Texts usually go through for me so I’d be happy to be a part of that.
Three one four-614-zero one three six.

I did a little research on that Deer Dander. Seems to get good reviews. I might give it a try.

I’ll be in a tree a week from Thursday!!! Wooohoooo!
