Same! Guys I'm trying to contain my excitement for this season. And the crazy part is I'm probably not going to get to hunt a whole lot for myself until late October.

Goal 1- Get my 7 year old on her first deer. It would be neat to do it in the food plot I planted right next to my 3 acres. It's my first food plot and it's growing pretty well. Deer are starting to use it more and more and the other night a buck she named "scratcher" showed up just after dark. If it doesn't work out there, I have another spot I can take her that has a ton of does coming down into a soy field every night.

And then Oct 4-18 I'll have 3 Australians staying in my house! I have a buddy named Daniel who's coming to hang out and he wants to hunt. Over there he chases Sambar Deer and ducks. So he's pumped to try and get a whitetail. He and the other guy Joel have been on my podcast a few times and I have enjoyed getting to know them over the years. This is the first time I'll meet them in person. Joel is currently hunting moose in Canada and after that he and his wife are touring the US for the rest of September.

So I'm hoping I can get my daughter and Daniel a deer and then see what bucks start showing up those first few cold fronts in mid October.

This weekend will be finalizing stand locations, moving some cams and starting mock scrapes. Also, need to take our big tractor and and batwing out for a few hours and mow some field edges. I'm going to try and squeeze in a morning or two of dove hunting with my son also. Weather looks decent so it should be a fun weekend.

My son (Logman, Team 9) and I are heading to our new 200 acre property this morning and do a little recon! It's only a couple minutes from my house and I've turkey hunted a small portion of it but there's alot more to check out! Will pick out some stand sites and get some cameras out. This is pretty exciting! Oct 1st can't get here soon enough!

HuntinKB51, Good luck, hope you find some big bucks.
I have a couple deer hunts with the grandkids, and some youth duck hunts. Then I’ll be out again, trying to find a Whitetail.

Checked and moved a few cams over the weekend on our Ohio lease. Nothing major on camera, but a few decent bucks. One gnarly one showed up that I'll send in our group chat.

I want to ask a dumb question. Most of my hunting is here in my home state. I’m blessed to be able to go out to Kansas to the family farm and hunt Whitetail.
My question is I see all the work you guys put into your feedlots or food plots. Where do you guys and why do you guys put them where you do?
My Whitetail experience is only in central Kansas. It is sort of flat and open, except around water sources.
    Anyway, I’m just curious.

On our lease, we are limited to food plot locations due to it being a working cattle farm. We try to keep them close to known bedding areas and then placing them in areas where the wind will allow us to hunt them. Access in and out to the plot is important, don't want to blow out the area going to and from when hunting. Over the years, I have gotten away from the micro food plots (1/8 to 1/2 acre) and spent most of the time building one or two large feeding areas on each property. 5-8 acres

I’m new to the food plot game. I’ve never really considered it before because I only own 3 acres and the other places I hunt would require me borrowing equipment to plant one plus getting permission from the landowners.

The electric company came this year though and cut trees and a huge path under the electric lines on a neighboring property. Never have they cut this much. They basically took a trucks length on both sides of the pole down to the bare earth. My property is mostly yard and in order to kill deer on my 3 acres I always have had to use corn…which is fine and legal but I’m just wanting to not lean on the yellow gold as much. So when I saw that dirt, I thought no til food plot. But I had to get permission not only from the landowner but also the guys she allows to hunt there. They mow her yard on a discounted rate and in exchange she lets them hunt the place. They have corn feeders everywhere. They’ve always been defensive of me moving in and rightfully so. So I met with them and told them I’d plant the plot which should help them in turn and I’d stay on the side closest to my property. And they agreed. So this plot helped me gain access to the next door. I bought Domain No BS and Big Sexy. Combination of clover, winter wheat, radish and turnips, and some other stuff I can’t remember. I sprayed and I’ve added some fertilizer and that’s it. Every night for the past week I’ve had a group of 3 does in there.

And here’s the why…it’s really for my daughter. I want a place where we can just walk over the hill and hop in the blind or ladder stand and she has a chance to kill a deer. All my other places require a decent hike for the most part and she’s only 7. So I planted it because I didnt want her first deer to be too easy (corn pile in the backyard from her playset is a slam dunk…I’ve done it a few times now). So walking over the hill to my little plot feels like hunting to me and will give her some experience. I’m excited to see how it plays out next weekend if the wind is right.

I was listening to Travis’s podcast this afternoon. I got this idea from his podcast.
If you have any, what are your goals this year for hunting?

Thanks for listening. My goals are pretty simple this year.

    - Get my daughter her first deer or at least several attempts at it
    - Give my buddy from Australia a great experience and hunt while he’s visiting
    - Kill a deer or two with the recurve.
    - And as always keep God and my family first and not let hunting consume me.

Plan is to check some cards Thursday. Make a game plan from there if I’m hunting. Son wants to sit Saturday evening. May just hunt our big field and deer watch.

I supposed to leave today for Wyoming to help a good friend of mine with an Elk Hunt. He got sick last night. I was looking forward to going. But I do have another youth hunt this Saturday. So it will be fun
