I got enough service to send a quick message. I know I sent a text to the team. I connected on my elk this evening.
I do not know what happened there, but it posted twice. With all my extensive knowledge of technology. I’m sure it had to be the device and not me
I’m not the greatest storyteller, but here it goes on being successful on the elk this year. First off this year was a very wet year, which is unusual for us. In Utah you have to draw a deer tag for every unit. I draw an archery deer tag about every other year. The first part of my hunt I was focused on mule deer. The Thursday after opening day I got my deer. So after that, I focused on elk, which is my first love. (don’t tell my wife I could get in trouble ops Anyway, we were lucky we had a break in the weather. So me and my boys hit it pretty hard. We covered a lot of ground. 2 1/2 years ago I had a mild stroke which affected my left side a little bit. I used to be able to cover about 8 to 10 miles in a day. Now it’s about 4 to 6 miles. Which I feel very blessed to be able to do. Back to the story. Wednesday my oldest son really got into the elk and I got into them Wednesday evening. I really thought I was going to get an elk Wednesday evening I was in the middle of them. If you’ve never been in the middle of elk bugling, it is quite an experience. We had three different bulls bugling, and I don’t know how many cows running around. In Utah a lot of our elk units are spike or cow only on the archery hunt. The two areas we know the most are a spike and cow units. Well, Thursday morning we got into the elk, but could not close the deal. Two of my sons had drawn back, but could not get a shot. That happens a bit with elk. Thursday afternoon I was a little worn out so I worked my way down to wallow that I have shot elk at before. I was laying behind a couple dead full, nodding off and on to sleep. And I hope this doesn’t offend anyone. I had to teach Sunday school that next Sunday. I have the Bible on my phone. As I was reading, I heard some thing I lifted up my head, and there was an elk at the wallow 14 yards away. So I had to slowly move without making any noise and get in position, I could shoot. I was able to get the shot off the elk ran 70 yards and I heard him crash. I got a hold of the boys. I started quartering the elk out. my two sons and three granddaughters got to me about 7:00 pm We were back to camp around 10-10:30 PM.
Awesome story! I love elk hunting. There’s nothing like a screaming bull to get you fired up. Congrats man! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
