Yes Carp. Just missing JW Gruv. I get his number and I’ll send it out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I will be at work. I work offshore in the Gulf of Mexico. I am a chief engineer on a construction vessel. I am here but we will not be doing anything tomorrow. Relaxing.
My job is mostly paperwork unless my guys need some help with something. Right now we work 42 days on and 21 days off. Just trying to make as much money as possible. When the time is right we will go to 21 / 21. The job is not that hard. I really enjoy my time off. Haha.
I’m up at my in-laws in Northern Ohio. My father in law owns a pig farm. Has about 1500 sows. Every Labor Day they host a big hog roast and a bunch of folks from church and the town come out to the farm. We put the pig on here about 10pm and then play card games most of the night. It’s tiring but a lot of fun Actually just got back to their house from running my miniature golden doodle Mac on a deer training track. Been training him the last 2-3 months and he’s really doing well. Planning to switch from deer hide and artificial scent drag to deer hooves next week. And then after a few deer go down at the start of season I want to get him on some real tracks and see how he does. Been filming it and tracking his progress on YouTube. Call it Mac on the Track. I have heard of using dogs for tracking hit animals. That is cool that you train dogs to do that. Out here for some reason they just don’t use tracking dogs.
Nice lookin dog. Yea it’ll definitely be nice to have a dog that I can use if my daughter, my friends, or I should need him. We will see how he does this season on some easy tracks. There’s a new app coming out called TrakR that Shane Simpson designed. I think it’s gonna be a great resource for people. It’ll connect hunters who need a tracker with one close by or one willing to take the track. Also allows hunters to see a rating on the trackers that are willing to take the track. And it should collect some useful data for hunters regarding equipment and shot angles. Maybe if Mac does well this season I’ll get him on there in a year or two. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'm just curious, Has anyone been in the woods? I will not be in the woods until my trip to Kansas the first week of November.
Other than scouting and trail cam stuff, nope not yet. Season in Ohio starts Sept 30 and runs through Feb 6. Probably will be taking my daughter out opening night. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I’ve always wanted a tracking dog over the years but time would just not allow what’s needed for training. Recently purchased a thermal drone to tinker around with. When I visited our new IL lease last month I took it along to get an idea on deer numbers. Here’s a few pics from the flight. It takes day and heat pics at the same time. When you cannot see them, their heat gives them away. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Here’s a buck I found grazing through our cattle pasture here in OH. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I don’t plan on starting a business, just for my own personal use, helping friends & family. I have my flight certificate but will need to pass the pilot test to be able to charge anything if I did venture that way. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
