I was off work today to take my wife to get her wisdom teeth cut out. While she was sleeping off the anesthesia, I ran to town to pick up her scripts and get food plot supplies. When I got back, after got her doctored up, I tried to beat the 92% chance of rain this evening and get the plot in. After a dead battery on the tractor, concrete weight falling off the disc, and front brakes on the 4wheeler locking up, I got it in. Nothing burns off a good chance of 1/4” of rain like putting in food plots. Hopefully it decides to rain sometime this week or next.
Here’s 3 of the buck I’m after on the 23 acres behind my house. Still have 3 other piece of private that all have some really good bucks on them.
Hopefully. The one time my kid decides to go out during crossbow season is when one will end up getting killed.
Hello, team! My name is Justin and enjoy bowhunting, coaching youth sports, paying too much for health insurance, and long walks on the beach with a weighted pack strapped to my back. I don't have any interesting or large bucks to chase this fall, but I plan on shooting a 125-135" three year old if the opportunity presents itself. I may or may not shoot a doe at some point this year depending on how I'm feeling when one walks by. If it's too warm, she's too far, there's too many bugs, or I have something else I want to do that day or night, I will likely not shoot one.
Welcome aboard, don't you have an annual BHOD "Doe Patrol" episode that will require a contribution? Personally, I am shooting a 125"-135" on public land in Arkansas all day.
Most of my properties are pretty thin on deer numbers in general, so shooting does isn't a priority. We leave that up to the DNR sharpshooters who bait them in and shoot them with rifles in March. Plus, I'm old and lazy and unless it's absolutely perfect I'm in no hurry to waste a bunch of time dealing with a doe kill. Doesn't mean I won't do it, but it's certainly a lot lower on the priority list than it used to be.
That one in the back is the biggest/oldest deer I have on camera on my lease. I believe he's 4 and probably won't score over 135, but I'm going to shoot (at) him if he walks by me.
Best one at my local lease. Not the best photo but he's super tall with a big bladed brow tine and a kicker on his G2. Again, not much more than 130's but a deer I will shoot if given the opportunity.
And the best 4 year old on my permission farm at home. I had big hopes for this guy and he really let me down. I may call him Ryan Leaf. He was a 130" 8 point as a 3 year old. I was hoping for 150" at 4 and I got 125" and one less tine.
Ryan Leaf is a great name for that buck under the circumstances. Let your son kill him if you don't want to.
Hopefully he shoots the first adult deer that walks in front of him now that he's graduated up to the compound and will be hunting on his own. Like I keep telling him - the only way to get better at killing deer is to kill deer.
