If you can get away with it with the wind direction and solid access route, go for it. If not, hold off.
I had @Jezzy670 check one of my trail cameras yesterday since he was hunting close to it while I was at work. I am pretty sure the big six point on the right is a buck I almost shot last year on November 2. That pic is from back in September, so we are on his core bedding area. There is also a couple of nice 8 points and a big 10 from last year all bedding within the same general area, at least until the rut starts up. I think our scouting from last year until this year has found a solid buck bedding area. Hopefully, one or both of us can capitalize. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
This morning I was silent on the walk in. The moon was giving me vibes like it was the total eclipse all over again. I was basking in my ninja like entrance and a few steps further, got busted by two deer under my stand when I was about 20 yards from it. Didn’t see anything after that. The Doyle’s hunting hoist worked out well. It fits in my cargo pocket, and I think the more I use it, the more I’ll be glad I have it.
Well, my bad luck with equipment continues. I took my older boys to the gun range today to practice for the youth rifle season. My son accidentally started to close the truck door on my arm, didn’t hurt me, but I did drop my binos when the door hit me. The right eye cup broke off. The binos are Leupolds, so warranty should cover it but is annoying. I also realized that my rangefinder seems to have fallen out of its pouch. I assume this happened on Monday when I took my son out. If it fell where we were hunting, I should be able to find it, assuming no one else does first. Fortunately, it was a Tidwe rangefinder off Amazon and was only $65 if I do lose it. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I didn't hunt this past weekend—football and cheer kept me busy all day Saturday, then I decided to fish yesterday morning for one last time before putting the boat up for winter. I was going to hunt last night, but it was 80+ degrees, and I didn't feel like dealing with a dead deer on a Sunday night in those temps if I did shoot one. Looks like temps are going to cool off again mid-week so I'll probably get out for a couple of quick hunts this week.
Going to get out a little this weekend. We were supposed to have rain on Friday followed by a little cold snap, but every day the forecast for the weekend warms up a bit. I’m leaving work at 11am Friday to get a little chorin’ done so the weekend is open to make a few moves when I need to. All I’ve had on camera is a slew of little bucks sparring. All I need to see on camera is some daylight deer movement and that happened this morning.
Eventually the weather and temps aren't going to matter and the bucks will be moving regardless. The earliest I've seen a doe get bred is October 28th so we're only a few days away. If you're lucky enough to get that first one who pops, you'll have every buck in the area on her.
I will be out Friday afternoon. My plan is to go put a ground blind out in a spot I will take my boys next weekend for youth rifle Nov 2-3. After that, wind permitting, I will sit the last few hours in the oak grove I was in a couple of weeks ago. Those oaks were just beginning to drop and should be dropping well now. I need to go back into that spot anyway and see if I can find my rangefinder. Saturday afternoon, I plan on taking my middle son out, not sure where we will go yet. I am off Nov 8-12 to hunt. I have plenty of sick time and may take an extra day or two at some point as well. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
New buck showed up last friday night. Super warm here this week so not hunting till friday. Hope to see him in the daylight soon.
A big buck will make even the ugliest hunter look better! Good luck on chasing him down! I'm going to sneak out for an afternoon hunt today. Condidtions and timing are right, and nobody has stepped foot on the South end of our farm since the season started. There's a small clover/chicory plot that the does are pounding every evening and it's only a matter of time before a buck shows up looking for them. I plan on being there when he does.
Nah, I think I'm out of doe-killing mode right now unless it's a weekend morning, and it's about time to go, and I have nothing to do for a few hours after my hunt. It needs to be a very specific set of circumstances.
He’s in daylight and he doesn’t like his ass sniffed. Maybe I hunt tomorrow morning instead of taking a half day for mowing leaves.
