I had no idea. It happened so fast with the bird coming in silent the last 100 or so yards and I actually took the shot at my 7 o'clock when he circled high to my back left. I realized he was a double when I started cleaning him.
Well I am supposed to be on the road to my lease out in northwest Illinois right now but clearly I am not. I had the front hub on my truck to out today so I will be taking it into the mechanic in the morning. Thankfully he will have it back to me on thursday and I am still planning my trip to the lease for Saturday though Tuesday!!! Good luck to everyone that is getting out! Let's put some points on the board!
Heckler- I would be up for that, kind of unfair since u get to shoot two birds but I will play the odds and see if I cant get lucky I will be heading out this weekend and shouldnt have to much of a problem unless I make a mistake. Stopped by last saturday to check a couple cameras and ended up seeing 12 toms(no jakes) and 3 hens on the property. Just to put this out there I think my bird last year was the biggest or second biggest of the contest Buckeye- as long as it has a full fan and a beard hanging down its getting shot, so is it has some giant hooks or more then one beard its just a surprise. Badger- how did it go? Ferg- Always fun when car issues pop up but hopefully you will be able to get it done this weekend.
We only get one bird each. My first bird I posted does not count! My season ends the 31st, yours too right? I would say you have the advantage being your a lot further north. The birds around here are already pretty much done. GAME ON!
Alright sounds fair and yes I have till the 31st. Yeah its just starting to get real good up here. Most of the hens should be about done so they are going to be searching harder, makes it a little easier to call one in without a hen jumping in and stealing him. To be honest if it has a full fan and a good beard its getting shot. There is a group of 5 that show up regularly and im going to go for this one, when you zoom in hes got some decent hooks.
Who all is making it out this weekend? As of now I will be going out tomorrow. Buddy might get called to work on saturday so just waiting to see if they make him work. Either way we will be going to the lease and trying to fill our tags or I will be filming someone else if he has to work. Sunday they are calling for rain so not sure how sunday is going to play out.
Well really hoping I will get my truck back today otherwise I am not sure what my weekend will look like. It is a problem with my 4 wheel drive so this might be big bucks. I got my new turkey call today so I am all ready! Sent from my iPhone 5S using Tapatalk
Can't make it out this evening but I'll be out tomorrow morning and tomorrow evening. If no luck tomorrow, I'll try for a couple hours Sunday morning.
Alright got the truck back so I will be on the road tonight at 11 when I get off work! Sent from my iPhone 5S using Tapatalk
Good luck guys be sure to check in as soon as you get a bird Buddy doesnt gotta work so where heading out to try and pull off a double 2 years in a row
Was crazy about a half hour ago now it has gotten quiet. Had 3 or 4 gobblers about 60 yards from me but I never saw them. Sounded like they were fighting at one point. Now nothing hope it picks up again soon! Sent from my iPhone 5S using Tapatalk
Well your having more excitement then me hang in there usually around 10 they fire back up. No gobbles at all and just 1 hen so far. Not sure why we didn't hear any on the roost. Dad drive by in the way home from work and said he seen 4 on the other side of the farm
Had one doe come right into my decoys this morning. Didn't look very healthy and seemed to have a limp. Will have to watch the footage later to see. Sent from my iPhone 5S using Tapatalk
Well nothing today but all ready to go again tomorrow! Il laws suck! Sent from my iPhone 5S using Tapatalk
After my hunt I stumbled on all of these within a 20 yard radius! Sent from my iPhone 5S using Tapatalk
Any word with the doe? Good find I kinda looked around a little but haven't found any yet this year. Well today what I thought would be a sure thing was a complete bust sat pretty much all day and only one hen and no gobbles. Swapped cards on the cameras and only a few hens. Has me scratching my head, only thing I can think of is our farmer and everyone around has been hard at work tilling and planting so not sure if that has got them all kinda mixed around or what. Going to take my filming partner brother out tomorrow and give are farm a week to hopefully settle back down from all the tractors running around this week.
Haven't had a chance to go back and watch it again. Had two gobblers to my left a bit ago but it sounds like they have moved off to the north. Already quiet here. Sent from my iPhone 5S using Tapatalk
And I somehow managed to leave my camera on so I have a dead battery and my spare is back in the truck. This sucks. Sent from my iPhone 5S using Tapatalk
