One guy was telling me that in harsh winter the toms beards will freeze and break off shorter. Has any one heard of this or was he BSing me?

Nick I have heard the same about toms beards freezing off. I have seen a fungus that eats the beard down and have actually killed a few gobblers that had 1" or longer spurs and only had a small beard. The end of there beard was a gray color and very brittle. As for the freezing I would not think this would happen to often.

yeah just something I was wondering since we had a harsh winter is thats something that might come into effect. But your talkingg about like some sort of infection, cant say I have came across that before. When I was hunting this fall I had a hen come out in the field by me and I was sick to my stomach watching it. It looked like she had something like warts just covering her head and was barley walking, stumbling around then eventually just layed down in the open field until dark and as far as I know she stayed there after my evening hunt. You could tell something was wrong with her but I didnt have a fall tag so all I could do was watch.

Money and lack of vacation time! Hopefully both will change in the future!

Got out to my lease today to do some shed hunting and found a few spots for my ground blind for turkey season. I share a lease with a few other friends and they are hunting earlier seasons so depending on the success they have will help determine where I setup.

I will be in Texas 4/17-4/22 trying to get one but I may be using some of that time to try and get a gator, havent decided on that yet. My season starts May 5th here in Michigan, I have about 6-10 people that I will be trying to get birds also so sometime in that whole mix I have to get one for myself.
Awsome, Are you going to be using a bow in all of those states?

My season starts April 16. I'm heading down to camp Saturday to do a little scouting and put out a few cams. Hopefully the property isn't too saturated but I'm not holding my breath. I'm thinking about buying a leftover tag for one of the later seasons, but I'll have to see how work is going. I really want to help the team out.

Alright looks like team 10 is on the board already! I have a tag for April 14-18 and May 1-14. May will be my successful time as I am not expecting anything from my April hunt. All my new gear will be arriving tomorrow so I can't wait to get out to the lease and get my blind setup.

Made it out to the lease yesterday to just wander around a little since I dont go in the woods at all besides after season. We had 40mph winds so there wasnt much up and moving around at all. Did talk to the farmer and he said there was 6 toms out in full strut in the morning

Made a trip out to one of our properties last Saturday to do some shed hunting/turkey scouting and seen 3 toms strutting in the field with 10-15 hens. Did a few owl hoots at them and they were rockin! Man I can't wait!

I got all my gear in the mail today so I am all set now. I am going to head back out to my lease in a week or two and get my new blind setup.
