Just got back from my buddy's place he shot a great buck this morning, definatly has me pumped for the next couple weeks. Can't post the pic but it is a 165" 8 point, one of the best 8's I've ever seen. Had another friend kill a 170" 8 last year. Seems like mass is the key to big 8's and his had it 5.5" bases and 4" past the g2.

BUCK DOWN!!! Sitting in the stand waiting on help to arrive. I think it's the buck I named public enemy #1 in the above pics.

I had an eventful few days earlier this week, just couldn't get the bucks within range. I leave tonight to go to some conservation land with a few friends, hopefully get to down something.

Keep up the good work, team.

Well guys, my day took a turn for the worst after I posted my picture.

Shortly after I took that picture I went and met my buddies at the truck and dropped gear off and swapped it out for the deer cart. Halfway back the storm came through and it poured for about 20-30 mins. We followed what was left of the blood trail for 50 or so in buck brush then lost it in a water slough. Crossed over but couldn't find any blood on the other side. We spread out and combed the area but found nothing. Pretty bummed out to say the least, that buck was easily my biggest ever, I would say a 160+ class deer.. Gonna try and look some tomorrow again, but it isn't looking good.

I thought I double lunged him from 50, I mean I smoked him. I cannot believe he went as far as he did. Heartbroken right now, he'd have been a nice deer to harvest as a first with the new rig. My first ever non-retrieved deer. It's sickening.

Rattled him in to 25 yards came to full draw and mouth bleated but he didnt stop, he kept moving to he other side of the tree I was in so I swiveled 270 degrees at full draw and bleated again. I took the shot just as he took a step, bad shot he had stuff hanging. He ran about 50 yards and milled around for 10 minutes, started to head to the other side of the cut from me so I grunted twice and doe bleated. He came back to my stand and worked a scrape, with his guts hanging out. he moved to about 20 yards and I bleated him to a stop just as I reached full draw and put a second arrow in him through both lungs. This time he took off hard. and I watched for him to crash but never seen him go down so I took the long way out to my truck. I called my dad and a couple friends but they were all 2 hours away which was fine I wanted to give him plenty of time. We headed in about 7 and got on his trail, it led 200 yards then he jumped the fence to the cattle pasture bordering the cut and my food plot. and he circled a small pond then followed the fenceline for another 200 yards and jumped the fence again then headed down the trail I walk in on and died 50 yards from my stand 20 yards from the first shot. We started trailing from the second shot or else we would of probably seen him. Pretty crazy blood trailing him 600 yards and finding him that close to my stand.

Cledus that is a huge bummer man, I wasn't nervous at all before my first shot but after that shot I was shaking so bad and watching him for 10 minutes before the second shot didn't help but as soon as I drew all I could think about was making the shot, as I said in my story he went a long way especially double lunged. I seriously thought I was gonna lose him but he came back for that follow up shot and it was a terrible feeling before then. At least in your experience it was mother nature that got you not your own inexperience like me.

That's nuts, two shots, pretty much eliminating his vitals, and he went that far! Congrats man, he's a stud.

Yea man, I am still pretty disappointed. I will be back up there this next weekend, and had asked the conservation officers to keep an eye out for circling buzzards. Told him is tag him if they found him, sucks to waste such a beautiful harvest.

I would do the same, some people wouldn't but it is the right thing to do. Some guys hunting with a friend of mine had to let one go overnight here two weekends ago and all they found the next morning was hair and the head, tagged it and got an European mount. Coyotes are so bad the buzzards don't get to eat here. Now that I got a buck down I'm predator hunting for the next 4 months.
