Well boys its over. My season closes Thursday and I cant afford another day off. I did get out yesterday for the worst day of hunting I have ever had though. I realized I wasnt where I wanted to be after setting up real early. So I decided to make a change since I had plenty of time before light. Well, in scouting I end up falling in a creek, wet up past my waist. And to make matters worse, the blackberry in my pocket wasnt a fan of the water either. So I sat in my blind (which never did get moved) wet for as long as I could take it. I got on no birds, and the crows were calling over head. I give up. Go to put my boots back on, that fit too tight anyway, and got pretty angry, so I cut em. Get them on get packed up, hike out, then realize I left the knife! Then my chair swings, scratches the car. Then racing home because I'm freezing, I get a ticket....... I really would have rather been at work. Hope it goes better for you guys! Good luck!
Saw them fly down this morning......then they shut up. Thought for sure we had it right. Tomorrow is another day. Sorry to hear about the rottne hunt ipv, always next year.
Got crapped on today...and Saturday. Saturday Morning was slowwwww until about 0800-ish. Then they all started gobbling up a storm. They were all around me, and not moving. So I did. I got in the Jeep, and started driving around, checking out the fields. I found one jake sitting in some tall grass, next to the road, so I drove by and turned around. I parked about two blocks from him, and tried to get around him. I think he caught on to my ingenious plan, because by the time I got parallel to where he was...he was about 40 yds in the tree line, behind me. Took off as soon as he saw me. Right into the private land... Today. RAIN, and a lot of it. I went down there last night, and drove around again. I saw the same Jake, same place... So I went to town and sat at the bar till about 2130, and went to my campsite. (Ps, I won $302 on pulltabs. That was the profit. lol GREAT NIGHT!!!) This morning at about 0500 (due to the weather, Sunrise was a bit unachievable.) I woke up, got some water, cleaned up my gear a bit, then headed up to the field. I picked the spot as close to the area in the field as he was always posted up. Then set up my decoys... 0930, no sign of him. So, I called it a day. The rain was penetrating my rain gear (Poncho, rain coat, and Marine Corps Gore-tex all together...WTF?) I was cold, wet, and all my joints are freaking killing me... I have to work tonight, so tomorrow is out of the question... That's all. There's always next year. Or this fall...depending on what happens...
