I love onX. Recently I cyber scouted and area near me that looked promising, I went and checked it out found a couple scrapes and got excited. It was close to property lines but according to onX just a sand and gravel pit. We had a wicked wind storm, really bad. Today I figured I would sneak in and set up. WTF there are houses there! I was in their front yards! The wind got rid of the leaves and uncovered them. I guess onX is not up to date all the time. I left there and went to another spot, Awesome, for me, owls calling all around me and such and awesome spot but nothing! there's always tomorrow!
Bummer fellas. Sounds like some bad luck. But it’s out of the way now. Nothing like being owed some good luck going into early November. I will be hunting Monday evening through the weekend. Mostly doing all day sits so I’ll try and update when I have phone service in the woods and in the evenings back in the hotel room. Can’t wait for team one to sling some more arrows! I didnt hunt this morning. I got word late last night one of my best friends, Shane Jones, was killed by a drunk driver. Apparently the drunk ran a stop sign and plowed my friend and his MC buddy both and my friend wasnt wearing a helmet, legal in florida. Other guy is in the hospital as far as I know and of course the driver is fine. Shane just retired from 20 years in the USAF. He is survived by his wife, Nicky, daughters Raven,7months, Harley, 2, and his 14 year old son, Greg and adopted daughter Ashley. R.I.P. brother. That's some bullshit Ridge sorry man. Friend of mine just got rear ended on his bike a couple months ago in Michigan. He's still in pretty rough shape in the hospital, not sure how much mobility he'll have or anything yet. Condolences and thoughts to you and his family. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk
I’m officially off the clock and ready to kill! Off work until Saturday night. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Not a lot to show for my time off so far other than a tired butt region. Haven't seen a deer one on the farm. Did see a half dozen or so Saturday afternoon on my way to a memorial get together for a friend of my wife's that passed away last week. Haven't even heard so much as a grunt. I just climbed down to go check my cameras deeper in the timber and regroup. Gonna try to come up with a new plan for this evening. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk
I shot another doe this weekend, I had a slow weekend as far as bucks go. Had a couple encounters with spikes, and after legal shooting time I had a wide short tined 8 show up. They are definitely chasing, just not coming my way. I am going to keep after it, it's a grind but sure the heck beats work.
Well just got back from the camera circuit. Filled up my scrape dripper, set up a new one. I found one heck of a scrape line, at least 10 that I counted within 100 yards of each other as I rode down the trail to camera #3. I packed up my climber and set it up about halfway down the line. With all the wind and sudden temp drop lost week they have to be being tended daily to look that clean so fingers crossed I'm onto a good one! I'm gonna eat some lunch and go give it a shot. It looks like the service for my buddy, Shane won't be this weekend but the next. I have Friday through Monday off. It's about to break loose fellas. I have good odds of putting a nice buck down.
Goodluck ridge you definitely deserve something to celebrate right now. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk
Sorry to hear about your friends Ridge and Z. Terrible, horrible stuff. I'll be praying for the families. Finished out my weekend hunt seeing a bobcat, coyote a group of hogs and one little doe being followed by a young 6 pt all out of range. Some good bucks were taken though. You might be able to see them if you search for the Hagerman Wildlife Refuge 2019 hunt. Not sure I haven't had time to look. Packing now for a 4 am departure to drive 7 hours to Kansas. Should be hunting tomorrow evening.
Well. Never mind. Flying out Thursday back Sunday. I'll get to hunt Monday I guess. Sent from my SM-G960U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Made it to Kansas and got in a tree about 2 pm. New location I've never hunted. About 90 minutes after being in the stand a doe got out of her bed about 40 yards away, pretty cool. An hour later a young 6 pt came down a trail and walked right under my tree stand. Never even made an hint that he suspected anything. Right at sunset I hit the doe can and grunt tube and a buck came in right away but never got close enough for me to get a good look at him. I saw him walking away about 100 yards out and hit the antlers. He turned and ran right at me but stopped in a tree line and I never did get a good look at him. I'll be at it at 5:30 am tomorrow.
Saw five bucks today with a couple of them being in the low 120's. Wind has picked up and the next two days are going to be very cold and windy. Not sure what that will do to the deer movement but I'm going to find out. Deer are chasing a bit but not hot and heavy.
Real sorry to hear about that Ridge. That’s a real bummer.. Real short update this morning. I might actually have phone service in the stand I’m going to today so may be able to post more later.. rut is going full force here. Tons of fresh fawns without momma running around and lots of chasing. Both my hunting buddy and I have had what we would consider shooters in range each day just not shot opportunities. Neither of us can field judge worth a darn inches wise on antlers so we go by if give us an adrenaline dump or not... Bucks moving to fast through shooting lane, being directly behind us etc. lots of chasing going on. Passed on some smaller bucks and all does have and will continue to get a pass for the next couple days. 17 degrees this morning, major cold front. Should be a good day.
