I have yet to go out (dove season, fall food plotting and any other excuse, lol). Getting geared up to hunt Sika deer on Maryland's Eastern Shore next week.

I've always thought one of those Sika hunts would be pretty cool. I wouldn't put it super high on the wish list but it would definitely be a cool new experience. Do you do it every year?

    Quick update

Took a drive with my brother-in-law last night in an area that he has a couple farms that he hunts and is also the same area that we have a farm together. It unfortunately smells of death in that entire area. We won't really know how bad it is until we get out to walk them and or hunt. We don't want to tromp around the entire farms but it's supposed to get hot this weekend so we may get out to walk a couple of the farms to see what we can find. We did stop at a neighbor to our farm and he said that he's pulled a few deer out of his small pond.

As time progresses we'll hope for the best but at this point we are expecting the worse.

Luckily that is the only farm that I hunt in that immediate area but it still sucks because it is such a good area/farm that always produces 3-5 130"-150" bucks a year.

Oh damn dude. Is CWD bad in your area. We haven’t experienced it yet in southern Louisiana.

It's EHD, from a midge fly bite. It's been pretty sporadic but the areas that are getting hit have been getting hit fairly hard. Definitely hard enough to make a bowhunter sick to his stomach seeing and smelling these deer go to waste.

I was out shooting last Wednesday after I cranked the bow up to 65/66 lb. which is what I normally shoot at. Three sets of three shots at 20 then 30 and then 40, when I went to shoot at 50 I had a bad stinging up my left shoulder and neck. Woke up Thursday morning and could barely lift my left arm above my head without having some mild to medium pain.

I have not shot since last Wednesday, as of today the pain is gone and I got full range of motion. Into the garage this evening to set the bow back to 60 lb. and put it in the press to check timing and fix a minor peep rotation issue. We shall see how things go.............

Finally got two plots put in yesterday, ended up going with clover, chicory, and forage oats. I overseeded the clover and chicory to help get it established for years seasons to come and I will frost seed more clover and chicory late winter early spring. Thought about top dressing with a brassica type mix but I've never had the best results with that so I opted to the oats for the ease and price point. There's not a lot of rain in the forecast but we do have 2 chances on Saturday and Sunday on top of cool dewy mornings so I'm hoping for the best.

There's one shooter showing up on this farm so far with a few good up and comers.

September 20-21 is the early doe season here in Michigan. I'm going to try to get out for a couple hunts to knock off the dust, get some points on the board, and start restocking the freezer.

Good luck to all you guys that are able to get out and get after it!
