Wounded a giant buck last night.... ... it was perfect 20 yards I had a very small lane ...not sure If my anchor point was a little off or I he ducked the shot but at first I thought I smoked him.. He ended up turning around and I had another one knocked and shot him again facing me (Not the ideal shot, I know, but I thought I had already hit him...... I found the the first arrow and it was a clean miss. After coming across some blood I was able to find the second arrow by backtracking the blood. I had a good blood trail for about 50 yards. It was nice thick blood and in one spot it looked like he may have coughed some out.. I looked all night last night and today... stomped everywhere...nothing.... last 2 shots I have wounded deer.... Just can't believe it guys.. I just don't get how the blood stopped just like that.... I am almost positive it was a buck I named Tall Ten that I got a few shots of a month ago. I really hope he lives and I get to see him another day but I highly doubt it...........

Anyone ever had a stretch of bad luck like this? I feel awful.

Oh yeah two years ago I had terrible luck!! First I was having trouble getting on any deer. Then I finally got a shot at a doe and I end up hitting a branch and hit her high and way forward into the shoulder. Tracked her for 500 yards back and forth over our crick before I finally lost her. Then I shot a doe finally the weekend after.
Then comes the rut... I had just climbed up in a brand new spot at 1130 AM. I was getting settled in and clearing a couple small pine branches that were in the way when I caught movement in the crick, not 20 yards away a giant 10 comes walking right to me. I draw as he stops behind a little poplar tree 5 yards away. He steps out and looks right at me as I can kinda see one of the branches I was in the process of breaking bending back right into the way of my arrow. So as the buck turns his head I adjust to make up for the branch in my way, which in turn allows another small twig to find its way into my top idler wheel of my bow. I shot and the arrow dives right into the muck as the buck runs 50 yards and looks around...
To add insult to injury I end up wounding a giant during gun season. I had shot him, dropped him on the spot, he stumbled back to his feet and I was going to shoot again but my gun jammed (don't use Fiocchi shotgun slugs). The buck fell again, but again got back up and ran a few yards and fell again 40 yards from me in the brush. I could see his head turning and it finally went down.
I fixed my gun and walked to our Shack figuring I was gonna need help dragging. When we returned the buck was gone and I had only found enough blood to fill a shot glass, and to this day I cannot fathom how he didn't die right there

I sure hope you're wrong. Knocking on wood here, but I've not yet hit a deer that I didn't recover in relatively short order. I really don't want it to happen to me.

I'm back at it tonight guys. Going to the same stand where I wounded a buck on the 16th. It is my birthday today, so maybe I'll get lucky!! Good luck to the rest of you out hunting and to also to those of you where the season is right around the corner. The weather is getting cooler, the leaves are falling, and it feels about that time. Lets lay the smack down Team 1.

I jumped a good sized deer on the way in at 4:45, already on its feet. I need to start hunting this area only in the am I think. My buddy who was hunting with me has never harvested a deer with his bow. He had a doe come in around 7:00 pm directly behind him. She snuck in on him and offered him a perfect broadside shot at like 15 yards. When he went to put on his release and pull back his string he didn't have his release locked all the way forward causing his arrow to fall of his string. LOL.. He was so bummed

I've bumped deer three different times this year walking to one of my stands for a PM sit. I hate doing that, but it hasn't seemed to affect my deer sightings. Still no bucks yet with the exception of one small spike.

I know how your buddy feels. A couple of years ago I was sitting close to my son hoping to watch him kill his first deer. A doe came in from behind him and walked right under him. I was wondering why he didn't get ready for the shot so I slowly brought my binoculars up and looked. He was sound asleep  so I stood up, got my bow in hand, got in position and started to draw... and that's when the arrow that wasn't completely nocked fell forward, clattered on the bow and fell to the ground.

My son woke up as the doe took off. We still laugh about that one.

This year I have seen deer on stand almost every night out.... I am loving it. I had two does at 20 yards yesterday morning and I would have taken a shot on one but I really didn't have the best shooting lane. Seen a smaller buck working a scrape yesterday at 5:30pm and a small 4 pt I call forkie who came in to a grunt call on a rope. I also had a cat walk by my stand yesterday morning, and no it wasn't black....lol

She only went 40 yards from where I shot and decided it was a good idea to die in a foot of water.. what a mess!
