I'm not shooting at anything over 40. Preferably, 30 and in. Took the day off - just couldn't muster the energy to go. So I woke up early, voted, and came into the office to get some stuff done. Need to chill out for the next couple of days. I plan on hitting it hard once this weather turns on Friday through next week.
My back 40 in corn was cut tonight. Last pass of the combine was at 5:34. First deer to entered the field followed by a mature buck was at 5:48 pm. Amazing.... They were feeding before the equipment left the field. I will hunt that tomorrow night for sure!
@archbunk did you ever get a score on your buck? I don't see it on the score card? Just making sure we don't leave points off the board.
I took Tues and Weds off - both days I had shooters on cameras in daylight in front of our stands, including our #1 last night an hour before dark. Figures. Oh, and my neighbor told me yesterday he saw a big buck get hit on the highway coming out of one of the farms I hunt. No idea how many points, just that it was big. So now we wait to see which one doesn't show up on camera anymore. Awesome! I'm working a full day today, then I plan on being in a tree all day tomorrow, Sat & Sun. No idea where, but I definitely will not be at a desk.
Took a half day vacation this morning and didn't see anything... Couldn't hunt the afternoon with having to pick my girls up from school and had 2 shooters on camera well before dark at different spots. I will be able to get out for a couple hours tomorrow afternoon with grandma babysitting for me. Otherwise I'll be out Monday and Tuesday afternoons. Good luck guys, got a feeling some arrows will be flying soon!
Sat from 1 pm until end of legal at 6 pm. Saw a 5 pt and doe. No shot opportunity on doe. Gun season starts Tuesday and I will be out with 3 of my kids trying to get them on some deer.
Seen 8 deer last night, 1 small buck was close. Did see the one decent 8 point but was like 100 yards out. Taking a half day vacation tomorrow so I can hunt the afternoon. I did hear that a neighbor wounded a nice 10 of Friday next to the property I can hunt, so not sure if it's the one I seen last Monday, but I haven't had him on cam since last Friday.
Fergie Clause it is! Sat from dark-to-dark on Friday and Saturday and saw a lot of deer, just nothing close enough that I wanted to shoot. The food plot/scrape I sat over on Saturday is on top of a big ridge surrounded by timber and bucks pass through it as they move through the farm. Of course I sit there all damn day on Saturday and see one 2 year old buck come through. I decided to come home and hunt local on Sunday, and my #1 buck on that farm comes through at noon and works the scrape I just stared at for 11 hours the day before. FML
Fergie has been added to score thread. Wife and kids kind of laughed when they saw me measuring the antlers and told them it was for a contest. They wont be laughing when eating the steaks, lol. I got 58 lbs of meat from him so I am happy about that
