yeah I was in a nearby town friday before last parked under a white oak- sounded like kids were throwing rocks at me. They were really raining down! Bass Pro has same deal
how much? I can get the Spartan for about $350 I agree he looks like a 3yo, but you apparently have never hunted lower Michigan- that deer will almost certainly not make it through another season unless he goes full nocturnal and stays that way through Nov. 20 or so. Never seen a brown/down state as bad as MI. Guys been hunting 20-30 years and taken dozens of deer would still rather shoot a spike than a doe. Absolutely infuriating.
I agree in general MI is a "if its brown its down" hunting state. I'm lucky to live in a large Ag area with some like minded neighbors. Most of the tracts around me are 200+ acre farms. Most neighbors including us have the 8 pt or better rule so some of 1.5-2.5 yo 8 pts do get shot. I've been shooting 2.5-3.5 yo 8+pt myself. Trying for 3.5yo or better. I am planning on just trying to top my last one. I'd love to say I'm going to pass that 3.5yo 10pt to let him turn into monster 12 pt, but put it within bow range and I'll have a hard time not slinging an arrow.
that's awesome. It's great you not only have the acreage but the like-minded neighbors. Up in Montcalm Co I hunt public and there are some QDMA-observant private areas nearby, but they are in the minority. Amish don't help, either. Good people but they subsistence hunt and aren't all that observant regarding bag limits and season dates. Doing my best to adhere to QDMA and spread the word up there.
looks like Snyper only runs on ATT? that stinks. Looks like a great deal; but only Verizon works up there.
Got my new rig set up a couple weeks ago and took it out for its first round of 3D with a buddy this afternoon... needless to say, I'm in love with it. And I probably owe my buddy some beers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I did a 3d tourney today also. I did not have the same success...I was 100% dialed in at the range yesterday but I messed w/ my sights last night while putting on a new quiver. Put the sights back on thinking wouldn't change my POI. Boy was I wrong. 6" high at 25yds. Spent the first half guesstimating before I went to the range and got back on point. Lesson learned. Good exercise and good times though.
Guys my third year of college classes start today so I'll be around less however will be checking in as often as I can I have notifications set for this thread Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Who plans on taking a doe this year? I know some people don't have tags or just dont like shooting them.
Yes me too. Here we can get a 2nd buck tag after shooting 2 does. So ever year I take 2 at least, maybe more and give to a family that may need it.
I know you hear it every year that does are needed to be competitive in the contest. Don't know how true it is, but was trying to see if everyone has a opportunity to shoot one. I just got that feeling that this is going to be a good team this year! I'm just getting excited for the season to start!
I'm 100% with you. This is the most solid team I've been on so far. And does are definitely a large part of the point total. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'll drop a doe in MI no problem. Dozens of them running around; plus with a full freezer I'll be less tempted to break QDMA. Best tasting venison is an early season doe. I have a doe tag in WI but I see very few mature does on our property. If I smack a big boy early season and I have some free time up there later on; I'll not hesitate.
while it of course depends on each state regulations; the numbers don't lie. Last year's winners scored 1283 1/4 points. We have 12 team members. If every teammate only shot 2 does each that would be enough to put us in the running for a winning team (1200 points.) If we each shoot a just one 100" buck and one doe; we would score 1800 total points and absolutely destroy last year's winning score by almost 600 points. I'm still mad at myself for passing on several chip-shot does on my last hunt of 2016. It was an evening hunt in early December at a new spot and I figured I'd have no problem getting out 1-2 more times and was holding out hoping for a nice buck. Plus it was freezing cold and I was by myself deep on public land so I wasn't looking forward to tracking, dressing, and hauling out a doe in the dark by myself. Never was able to get out again. Looking back I'd rather have done the work to have her in the freezer and the additional 50 points on the board.
Yeah I agree with you on the does. But also a lot of guys don't shoot does, so I was trying to see what the guys on the team take on it. While hunting I never just go out to shoot a doe. But also my rule is if I get a perfect shot opportunity on a doe, I take it no matter what time of the year. This strategy has worked very well for me. There is only 1 rule that trumps that, if I'm setup on a hunt for a specific buck. Then it's him or nothing.
