I looked in to the 2 guys who haven't checked in yet-

flyguy: North Texas boy, member since 2012, he doesn't post much; but has been in the contest 6 years straight. Looks like he doesn't really social post on here at all. Last post was when he signed up for 2017 contest; his last post prior to that was in Oct 2016 when he scored a doe. He was slow checking in to his team last year also. It's almost like he's got better things to do than sit on his computer all day.

atlasman: I think he's another CheeseHead, member since 2008, not a ton of posts but he's definitely around. He hasn't been on much since he signed up for the 2017 contest but he does post socially from time to time. He contributed a buck and doe last season (just short of 150pts)

I say we vote on Captain and name now...before all the good names get taken.

Captain: Holt (because he killed the biggest buck last year)
Team Name: Temple of Boone or Anything for a Buck

w/ Temple our icon could be a buckified version of this:

    Boone.png

I can barely draw stick figures but if someone on here can that would be pretty BA

There is a 3rd guy that hasn't checked in yet either, KYBOWHUNTER8.

I also like 2 that Jordan posted, First Blood, and If your not first your last!

I'm good with whatever for a name. As far as a captain, most of the season I would have time to do updates, but as I have told every other team I have been on, From Halloween to nov 15th..ish, I may be radio silent, as I do not have internet at home and I will be on my rutcation for that time, so it may be better to have someone who can post updates during that period, since that is most likely when most of our deer will hit the ground. I've got 2 bow tags I can fill in iowa during the rut, and if I fill those and still have time I can go to Indiana and hunt there...so I got a lot of killing to do. My computer time will decrease substantially.

All three of the recently mentioned names are awesome. I'm neutral on that... The same goes as far as captain; Holt & Jordan are both solid choices.

I also disappear from Halloween - Nov 15 (or maybe the 18th this season.) I could take my iPad up to MI deer camp with me but I have to go about a mile up the road at night to get a signal after dark.

Where you hunt in Indiana? I used to hunt down in Monroe and Brown Countys, and also long ago in Huntington/Wabash area.

SW (Vigo County) I can hunt 1000 acres there my buddy owns, and he also owns 1500 ish acres scattered across 8 farms in Northern Indiana (Miami/Fulton/Marshall counties) I know the farms well as I hunted there 8 years before moving to Iowa. heck I still have 20 or so stands hung there.

KYBOWHUNTER8: member since 2012; looks like he also rarely if ever posts socially. Prior to signing up for 2017 his last post was scoring a 107pt buck on Sept 10 2016.

I almost got a lease last year in Vigo. How's the hunting (not compared to Iowa)

Vigo has very good deer numbers. And good genetics. we killed 4 bucks down there from 145-167." I had pics of a double main beam 180" type buck in 2015...then I moved to Iowa so I never hunted him.

    What's up dudes...

If you don't know, I'm Jake and I do live in PA. Looking at facebook hunting groups, it might be one of the few spots in PA that doesn't hold huge deer. My hunting areas are a mix between private and public. My parents have a 80 acre piece with another 20 right beside it that I'll be asking for permission to hunt. (Odds are good) There's also an abundance of public, but a lot of it is mountains. I also just bought my first house in December that sits on 10 acres. I don't expect it to be any good, but we will see. I'd like to pull off an out of state hunt, but money and time are tight this year. That's still being considered, though.

Deer are usually at the top of my priorities, but since getting this house it's been on the back burner. I've redone the majority of the house, so time for scouting, etc has been limited. Having said that, cameras have been up and tree stands on the private areas are hung. Unfortunately I haven't gotten a single shooter on camera. Glass half full, my cameras have been soaking for three weeks, so we will see if something new shows up when I check them this weekend.

Don't expect points from me, because I'm a ****ty hunter. At least my track record says that. Quality is below average in my area and I'm starting to see that, so I already decided to lower my standards a little. Hopefully that'll lead to a buck down this year. Fingers crossed.

All that said, it's good to see some familiar faces on the team. I know a lot of you have been around the forum for a long time, but Holt's buck last year and Josh hooking me up with Ohio advice is fresh on the mind. As with every year, I'm pumped for the season to start and looking forward to shooting the sh*t.

(Don't care about name or captain. I'll vote Holt since he messaged me.)

Good to see you on the team, Jake! Let me know if you decide you're able to make it Ohio this season. I'll personally take you to some of those AEP spots we talked about.

I definitely need to get back out there.

The hunting pressure that area gets in November rivals anything I've seen in PA. I'll have to do some more map work now that I know what to expect.

Lol! That's everywhere on Ohio brother. I've been telling guys from other states this for 5 years.. I'm honestly not sure why anyone keeps coming here. Personally, I'd drive the extra few hours to KY or IN.. if you don't have access to private in OH, you're flat out screwed. And I can't even get any private access, myself... I lost it all 5-7 years ago. The deer population is nearly half of what it was 5-10 years ago, and all of the farmers have discovered how much money they can charge for leasing rights... It's a sad situation. But still, if you do plan another trip here, I'll do my best to put you in some good areas.

With the amount of big deer coming out of Ohio, I have often wondered how great the state would be if Ohio DNR took away OTC nonresident tags. If they managed the herd the way Iowa DNR does, there would be a scary amount of giants in Ohio imo. They could keep revenue the same by charging more for NR tags...Iowa charges $600 for a tag and there's a 3-4 year waiting list. And in Iowa you aren't limited to one buck as a resident...with one buck rule in Ohio there would be mega giants all over the state.

I totally agree, Jordan. Matter of fact.. without going into too much boring detail about my work, I'm on a first name basis with the Senator who is the chairman of Ohio's DNR Senate Committee. We've been having meetings for over a year about the current state of hunting (especially bowhunting), the dwindling deer population, and the overwhelming number of nonresidents. Long story, short.. nonres tags go up $100 in 2018. That's a small battle won, but the war is far from over... I showed him my Iowa DNR account (with only 1 point at the moment) and explained how you guys have laid the groundwork, and have the best template for successful deer management. I won't quit until our state laws & policies resemble yours.

Most any Midwest state is like that...Indiana has GIANTS but has so little public land that the low price of NR tags don't impact population numbers too much...or that's my theory, anyway.

Michigan and WI have lots of public land and have "reasonably" (but not cheap) priced OTC NR tag system; but until recently MI had a really crappy system of regulations that really encouraged "brown/down" harvest mentality. Their current system is better but still has a way to go (modified "earn a buck.") Despite their atrocious approach to CWD, I think WI DNR has a pretty good harvest system but I would like to see a point restriction on the first buck. JMO.

Even though IL has giants, I don't hunt here b/c lack of public land ops and I despise their truncated season dates as well as...well, sending Springfield any more money than I am statutorily obligated to.
