That's tough on the wind. I hunt a stand that sits on the corner of a steep hollow and it doesn't matter what the wind forecast is it is different there. The wind swirls all the time. There may be a predominate wind direction but it will always swirl, makes for tough hunting. I try to hunt the thermals such as mornings when it tends to be moving up.

As for my sits yesterday. 15 does in the morning sit and 6 does in the evening sit. No bucks. Am going to try again this morning.

I had another bad Sunday night. Only deer I saw all day was a lone doe that came in with about 30 minutes of shooting light. She was at 20 yards in real thick stuff. Came to full draw 3 times on her until finally she walked out of sight/range with about 20 minutes left. She came back with about 10 minutes left and I got a shooting lane about the size of a frying pan. Ranged her at 28 and not wanting to hit high in case of a string jump, I put the 25 yard pin (my top) right at the top of her heart and let fly. She heel kicked and ran off into the thick stuff. From the tree it looked like a perfect heart shot pass through with the arrow sticking out of the ground behind her. But when I got down it was not the arrow- just the lighted nock. with the notch jammed full of dirt and a bent battery shaft. Took me a few minutes but I found the arrow lying near by- some hair jammed in one broadhead notch and not single speck of blood anywhere on the fletch, arrow, or head. There was a pile of hair near the nock. Like a pile. I coursed around and no blood. When I got back to camp I took my blood-enhancing flashlight (kind of a gimmick; but would work for this) and no blood on the arrow. I could not figure out what happened.

On Monday AM, I reverse double checked the range from the spot where the hair was to the treestand; and it was 30. I also re checked the area and still no blood. Best I can figure is I think the finder was hitting on a small tree about 5 yards closer than she was, so I was short. I clipped her brisket, and it caused the arrow to tail whip straight down, which jammed the nock full of dirt, bent it and popped it off. No harm to the deer.

I'll be back at it on Saturday AM...with a massive chip on my shoulder. Bucks were really starting to chase on Saturday- I didn't see any but my cousin and his brother in law both were covered in young bucks chasing lone does. Think I am going to set up my turkey blind on the edge of CRP with my bedded doe/tending buck decoys and see what happens.

Been off since Saturday guys, but I've mostly been taking care of bills and getting the family squared away before I start my hunting marathon. The few short sits I've had, I've seen a few dinks and does... but today is November. Time to get down to business!

Well guys I went out for 2 hours this morning before work and missed a good buck. Worked perfect. I have a micro plot deep in the woods. Bucks like to bed on the north side of it and watch the plot. I set up between there bed and plot. It work perfect, the buck walked the edge of thicket and started j hooking to go bed. He stop perfect broadside at 25 yards, wide open. I rushed the shot for no reason and shot right over his back.

He didn't know what happen and continue to walk to the bed and lay down in it. Then take a little nap for 30 minutes. Only 45 yards away. Something came in North of him and he smelled it and didn't like it and snuck out the back of the bed, no shoot. All I can do is laugh at my self. I will back out tomorrow morning.

Jeezus. Are we cursed this year?
Holt- it's Nov 1. Let's channel 2016 and make it NOVEMBER REIGN again.
I didn't say anything yet but on Oct 26 @0300 on my Stealthcam in MI I have a distant vid of a buck working a scrape that might be 160+" (sorry but every Stealthcam I have is a POS). I had a couple other nice 115/135 bucks in the same spot in late summer but this guy is a effing beast. I'm dedicating next week to him. I'll try to pause the vid and create a snapshot but like I said the vid is terrible- all you can see is width and height. He has to be 26+" wide and 12" high. No idea if he's 8 or 12+. I'm hesitant to say this but he might outscore my dads 187" buck- he's definitely wider.
    Public land though....

I don't know whats going on with me this year! I don't think I have told you guys about all my hunts this year. I may have a few other missed shots this year that I didn't mention. I came home today and took the same arrow I shot with the damaged head on it and shot it at 25 yards. It was dead on! I just got some kind of mental block going on and this point I'm just laughing at my self. This was the first mature buck I have seen from the stand this year.

Good luck Dnoodles with the new buck. Its great when a big boy shows up and gives you some extra drive to get out there Hunt. Hoping your luck with your next shot will be better then mine!

OK, so I messed up and swapped that card back into the camera. I will pull the card when I go back up; hopefully the crappy video won't be needed b/c I will be posting him on the score card.

FF326D93-2BFA-49E3-A9B1-41B5E15FD81F.jpeg We’ve been seeing alot of movement here...lots of bucks just no shooters. Prime time this next week!
I live on a big farm and we have some deer but I was just up at the new house we bought in the city and first we had a young 8 point walk through our yard and jump the fence into my neighbors. I mouth grunted a few times then went and took his picture.

C3FA7E61-FDC8-4FF9-AE6A-9AC62826428E.jpeg Then he gets spooked off...I go back to look and see if he was still back there and this absolute brute walks out of the neighbors bushes at 30 yards. I mean we’re talking house after house neighborhood here. Just a stud 12 Point urban deer. Now how do I shoot him without him running bloody through a neighbors picture window?

That's amazing. I have heard of big deer around urban areas but there is proof positive. Ahhhh, the temptation!!

is it just me or very early rut this year? Despite the really hot Sept/Oct, I've seen and heard of bucks chasing since
Yeah I live in south suburban Cook County and we have all these forest preserves (no hunting allowed.) Last November a buck about the size of that pig ran literally right across the street and into my neighbor's yard beating the absolute hell out of a smaller buck. I was driving so wasn't able to get a picture. Also, there was a somewhat internet famous buck was roaming around part of the same Forest Preserve last year. He was so massive the DNR finally tranked him and cut his horns off at the base because people were harassing him through the woods trying to get his sheds. I think he scored appx 230. I'll find his pics, there was a thread about him here last year.

They're not hunted at all so while they are not tame, but they will let people get to within 20 or 30 yards.

Hitting the road for MI right now, be in the stand for an early afternoon-dark sit. Good luck, y'all. Get bloody!

I’m still alive. It’s been okay hunting so far, but nothing I want to shoot.

I’ll be hunting today and then Wednesday - Saturday to close out PAs first season. Then back at it in December if need be.

    Live from the stand.
Checked my craptastic Stealthcam. During shooting light, have a couple of regular dinks in the evenings, some does, couple of appearances (including last night just before dark) of a symmetrical 110" 8 that's going to get stuck if I have the chance, and what would be a real nice 9 except he's busted everything off except his brows. No return of the giant yet.

Rut is in full effect. Several big bucks chasing in the fields in the way up, between 9-11am.

At about 5:30 I ended up getting down from the stand with that E wind and rain. Soon as I did it slacked off and I climbed back up. Ended up passing a lone mature doe at 20 hoping against hope a big boy would follow. No luck. Only deer I saw

Sorry haven’t been on here much. Been hard after my number 1. I think I have passed nearly every deer alive within 3 miles and still haven’t laid eyes on him. Ive seen some awesome action though. Ive passed over 30 bucks between 120-160” since the 25th. Ive got 8 vacation days left. Hopefully he shows soon.
