I've only been in Indiana for about 60 miles and I think that every single beanfield I've driven past has had at least one deer in it. So if you guys can hunt beans I would
Good luck today! That's my plan I'm hunting a transition area between bedding and big bean field. That way at dark I can get out with out spooking them. I checked a camera yesterday and got a huge doe group coming thru. So I'm looking for a doe tonight. I have also noticed alot more deer in the beans this past week.
Heck, I'm more than half tempted to run over to my parents near Fort Wayne and pick up an Indiana tag and head back to some of my old NE Indiana public land stomping grounds. I used to hunt over here about 20 years ago.

Dnoodles, do you feel Michigan has been better hunting for you over hunting in Indiana? My be worth a shot sometime.
Man, that's a heck of a first deer! That may take awhile to beat that one. Looks like a blood bath, I'm guessing a easy track job?
Just got the text I've been waiting for! The cape from my buck I shot last year is back from the tanner. Going over today to pick the form out, then shouldn't be long before it done, can't wait to put him up on the wall!
Apples and oranges. Back when I hunted Indiana I was young and very inexperienced. My dad and I had permission to hunt private land and we took a few deer over the years but nothing worth hanging on the wall more than a Euro mount. The land we hunted got sold and we didn't have anywhere else to hunt but public, and in Indiana there's not a lot of good public land options that aren't very heavily pressured. Not to say that there's not a lot of pressure in Michigan public land, but up by where I hunt it's not too bad and I'm a lot better Hunter Than I Used to Be. If I just wanted to fill the freezer, I probably could almost every sit in Michigan . But if I was going to lease and Horn hunt, Indiana would win hands down. Sorry for the random capitalization I'm using talk to text which has been retarded lately.
Makes sence. I was just curious and that's why I was asking. I see it all the time with people around me, leaving one good area to go hunt a different area, when they could put the extra effort right were they are. You are established in Michigan and have more confidence there, so it's a no brainer to go there.
I'm originally from Michigan, and so that's where the family deer camp is. Get together w/ my uncle and cousin, drink and BS about as much as we hunt, and our ol' ladies can hang out at camp if they want. Fill the freezer, see some decent bucks. Not to say we don't get chances at nice ones- my old man shot a 187" gross back in '09. I also hunt in WI on my buddy's 40. That's where I do my serious hunting. 2009 buck (30-06)
Serious question guys...I'm having some inner turmoil. I have one bow tag left. My top 2 deer right now are both living in the same draw. My number 1 is a buck I have not talked about much. I call him TripleX. I expect he is in the 190" nontypical inch range. My number 2 is Mr Clean, who I think is a 170" clean typical 10 pt. Both these deer are living in the exact same spot. I have one spot that is perfect to hunt these deer. Sunday-Thursday next week is going to be perfect to hunt this spot. my question is this...If Mr Clean gives me a shot, do I shoot or hold out for TripleX? Triple X is clearly a bigger deer, but both are legit booner class bucks. Mr Clean I think is 5 1/2, and TripleX I am fairly sure is only 4 1/2. And here is the kicker...my window for killing either one is closing fast I think. If last years pattern holds true, which I think it will, both these bucks will greatly expand their home range and disperse about October 20-22, once rutting activity starts. Right now both are at their most killable point. Once their range expands both of them will be much harder to kill. I mean I know right this second where both of them are within a 5 acre area, that's how small their range is right now. This coming week is my best shot. A 170" typical is a giant deer. Do I take the bird in hand if Mr Clean comes out? I am seriously struggling. TripleX is my dream buck. A mainframe 10 with triple drop tines...but then again, a 170" clean typical 10 pt is also the type of buck that doesn't come around often, and of the 2, Mr Clean has been more patternable. I can honestly say I would be thrilled with either one, but holy crap is Triple X big. yea yea I know...what a problem to have. I am legitimately struggling with this though.
They are both on your list, so I would take which ever one give you a perfect shot first. If there was a chance you would lose this property next year, I would go after just one buck only and pass everything else.
Dude I feel so sorry for you. What a horrible dilemma to be in.... lol. No but Seriously I wouldn’t make that decision until the opportunity presented itself. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Also if you go 1 buck or nothing, you will be tempted. It's a very hard pill to swallow! I did this last year and it was the hardest thing I ever did hunting, but for me it paid off.
Well this is on the farm where I live...so not worried about having permission next year. More worried about bucks venturing off and getting shot by a neighbor.
I vote is Triple X, since you should have other bucks next year that may go 170. And if Mr clean makes it, he will be even bigger!
A clean typical 170" Deer is a true Giant and one of a kind. I would go in there with the knowledge that I would shoot either one, and not stress. Hunting is not supposed to be stressful until the deer itself is within range. If I stressed out about shooting one deer or the other The Experience would not be as enjoyable
Well boys I finally made it into the stand. I did a true hang and hunt. Half my gear is at camp in Michigan but I'll make do. I like my spot except for I'm in the blazing sun. I got a cornfield on my left a bean field on my right and a strip of scrub in front of me and some thick stuff behind me. Tree selection was terrible. Most of the decent-sized trees in here are dead for some reason, and the other ones are I think honeysuckle with like two" thorns everywhere. I got lucky to find a cottonwood that I had at least 2 clean shooting paths to this little opening. Thank God I got a nice little Southwest wind otherwise every deer out in those fields could smell me from a mile away as sweated up as I am.
This is the thick stuff to my east. Got a nice little pocket to shoot into in there also...It's maybe 150 yds wide, the other side of that is corn. And Mr. Farmer chose today to take it in so any thing in there should come piling here to stage before heading into the beans or other cornfield.
