Well sorry to disappoint but I let a real big doe walk at 25 yards broadside tonight right at last light. It's my last night here until next week and I didn't want to ruin my wife's last morning hunt tomorrow by pulling her all over the woods tracking a doe... even if she was bigger bodied than any buck I've ever shot
46° this morning, boys. First time all year I haven't worked up a sweat getting into my stands. Quiet so far but still early. My wife...aka Death From Above
Awesome! Good luck! I had an eventful weekend. I passed a 150" 3 year old last night. I live streamed it too. Had him at 5 yards for over 5 minutes.
Had a good camera check yesterday on parents property. Was going to hunt this morning but it’s dumping down the rain here, so I’ll wait until this afternoon. This was two of the five bucks came by my hay bale blind on opening day. All together, which I thought was weird. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Been working my arse off guys, but I did make it out for a couple of hours last night. Had a doe with a spotted fawn come through the oak flat I was hunting in an absolute monsoon.. needless to say, they got a pass. And I'm happy to report that the new rain gear works amazingly! I'm scheduled to work the next 2 weeks without a break, but I requested Monday the 16th off. It'll allow me to hunt my favorite archery-only area on its opening day. Fingers crossed.. Hey guy.. I finally have some time to go hunting... I'm out on my first sit of the year!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Nothing tonight. The does stayed to far out and no bucks. However it sure was nice to be sitting in a tree!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Weather is looking like crap this weekend but Friday afternoon is looking good. Sunday not as bad as Saturday. I'll be at camp by myself so nobody else to worry about...
Wow, you've had to sit thru reading all of us who've been hunting for 4 weekends already? I'm sorry dude. You must have the biggest case of bowhunting blue balls ever. I got to where I had to pick up hunting in WI because I couldn't wait until Oct 1. If I lived closer to KY I'd hunt there too just so I could hunt Sept 1. Although if I hunted from Sept 1 - mid Jan I'd probably have a looooot of time to hunt. Considering I'd be divorced and all.
Well I shot a coyote last night...then proceeded to have 3-5 deer downwind of my for the last 45 minutes of daylight. None of them ever spooked, even at 5 yards. It was pretty cool. Got it all on film too.
Think I have the same range finder...Chuck Adams model Bushnell? Best $80 I ever spent. I've had it since 13 and it's still on original battery and dead nuts accurate.
It's actually a Bushnell ARC 450. I got it in 2012 I think. works perfectly, other than some dirt got behind the lens at some point and there's a permanent dirt spot on the lens
You and I had a similar time hunting, yesterday morning went out for a couple of hours. Had a couple of does in front of me when I heard deer start blowing behind me which I thought was strange since they were not close enough for me to spook them. After a couple of minutes I heard some leaves crunching and out of the thicket 2 coyotes appear and start sizing up the does. The does in typical fashion bolt but one of the coyotes stayed anchored just enough for me to get an arrow through him. Same stand I shot a bear from. I guess my season is turning into predator control.
Nice! Quick question- what do you guys think about using a coyote call to clear the deer away from my stand at night so I can get the deer out of my area without drawing attention to it being a man climbing down from that tree thats making all that noise? I've heard of using a dominant buck grunt but I never liked that idea just in case a big buck came charging in just as I'm halfway down the tree. I figure they're used to coyotes cruising through from time to time so it wouldn't keep them from the area long term.
Never done that, would probably work. I normally just rattle the leaves where I brush my stands in. Works great for me. I have used a buck grunt to clear some does out from time to time but that works better in the rut as the does are certainly avoiding the bucks at that time.
Driving through Indiana on my way up to deer camp in Michigan, I just saw a group of six bucks in a soybean field. All of them were six points or better. WTF?! Is it August? These Bachelor groups should have been broken up for nearly a month by now
