I did. Smiled and waved at every one of them. There's only 3 places to park to get to the area and I will check them all before I make my entry. And I do hunt during the week which does make a huge difference. But still all that traffic may drive them out. We'll see how it goes.

I would never have guessed that last one was anywhere near 186. He's a great deer but I would have thought closer to 170.
Thought that first velvet booner was going to be hard to top this year.
Good thing we have a ringer!

Rough hunt last night, didn't see a deer. I was hunting between some big oaks and bean field. Lots of acorns dropping but no deer. Had a different wind blowing from the east. This farm is tough, it's a big bowl and the wind is always swirling. The deer bedding is the highest ground on the property. So deer have all the advantage. It's going to take some time to figure this place out. The take away from last night, the deer dont like a east wind there. No point wasting time there on those winds.

Sounds all too familiar bro. In my primary area, there's no consistency to the wind, ever, and the bucks have an insane advantage with our terrain. It's a small miracle any of us ever kill deer there lol.

Yeah, last night I parked on the edge of the bowl. Its about 50 acres in size. I start to sneak down the edge and the wind was supposed to be blow at a angle to my back. Perfect for the deer, then the wind starts blowing hard right in my face. Complete opposite direction. If this happens all season, its going to be very frustrating!

Totally... For me, my scent "routine" is pretty hardcore and I always take thermals into heavy consideration. If a particular spot is just too chaotic (wind wise), I'll save it for the rut, when there's a better chance of a buck coming from different directions.

I hunt thermals over prevailing wind in many of my spots. I'll take the certainty of the first 2 and last 2 hours of my hunt over unpredictable wind direction any day.

Well boys, I'm ready for the Saturday opener in WI. Finished packing all my gear and washing all my clothes. Kind of surreal. It's been a helluva week at work, I had a massive emergency home repair ($$$$$) that popped up, and my wife picked this week to start us on a diet/workout routine that may literally be killing me.

Saturday may be 90* (WTF, Wisconsin???!!!) but I'll be in my stand in just my face paint and underwear if I have to. I need me some treetop therapy!

And yes, if I tag one I definitely will post my score pics in my undies!

I went out and pulled cards today and all the bucks I've had are still around and a few new ones showed up. One nice looking 8 that I haven't seen before. The does are plentiful too but I'm having a hard time about getting excited to hunt when it's going to be 85 and humid tomorrow. I'm thinking about not even going out and waiting until Sunday afternoon or Monday when it cools down. Missing opening day has really got me bummed out.

I'll be out in the AM at least- the moon is perfect and it will be mid 60s at dawn.
Best of luck, boys! Let's put a couple on the board

    Live from the stand!
Spooked a couple bedded big deer not 30 yds from my stand. They bed all over in here so not anything I can do. Plenty more deer in here not worried.

    Trying to draw FIRST BLOOD

Weird S-E swirling wind today but per radar a storm is moving in from SW. Odd.
Got winded by a yearling. Only deer in daylight so far

Only saw the little doe. Pulled my cards and had Piggy (my #1) 35 yards from my stand at 940am yesterday...slightly quartering away in a clearing. GRRRRRRRR, that lucky SOB...the Legend lives on!

I'll post pics when I get back...cannot figure out how pull pics from my card onto an iPad. I can read them but not transfer.

Wasn't this hot I would've put 50 on the board boys..Had a doe at 15 yards. Got pics of her on my phone upload later.

It's 82° I'm hunting in shorts and my thermacell crapped out. FML.

    Still better than work!

If it had been another 5* hotter I would've been in my skivvies. And might've shot that doe just to post the trophy photo!
My thermacell is Fd. Just won't stay lit. Tried everything and nothing going. Of course this is the only time I've not brought a backup. I'm probably going to get zika AND West Nile.

Dnoodles, we all thank you for not shooting that doe. No one want to see the trophy pic with you in your undies! Haha.

I ended up not hunting this weekend and wasting time hunting a farm I know little about. So I decided to do some low impact scouting, set a camera, and prep a couple stands. I also found a old ground blind left on the property, so I fixed it up. It's in a great place to watch alot of the farm and it's easy to get into with spooking deer. I will be back hunting this coming week. Going to shoot a couple does as soon as I can.
